An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Automation Manager to take ownership of automation engineering activities within a large-scale, highly automated medical device manufacturing environment.

This is an opportunity to join a globally recognised manufacturing operation, overseeing automation systems, driving equipment reliability and leading key engineering improvement initiatives across a sophisticated 24/7 production facility.

You will play a pivotal role in developing automation capability, managing technical projects, supporting engineering teams and ensuring manufacturing equipment operates safely, efficiently and reliably.

The Role

As Automation Manager, you will be responsible for leading automation engineering activities across the site, ensuring the performance, reliability and continuous improvement of automated manufacturing equipment.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Lead and manage site-wide automation engineering projects, from initial concept and design through procurement, implementation, commissioning and equipment acceptance.
• Take ownership of the site's automation strategy, identifying opportunities to improve equipment performance, reliability, productivity and manufacturing efficiency.
• Provide technical leadership and direction across automation engineering activities, supporting and developing engineering technicians and technical personnel.
• Oversee troubleshooting and resolution of complex automation and equipment software issues, ensuring effective root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma and structured project management methodologies.
• Manage relationships with external automation suppliers, equipment vendors and technical partners, ensuring project delivery meets operational and technical requirements.
• Work closely with Engineering, Operations, Validation, Development and Quality teams to support manufacturing objectives and resolve technical challenges.

Technical Environment

The manufacturing facility operates within a highly automated environment, incorporating:

• Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Automation and PLC programming.
• Cognex high-speed vision systems.
• Allen-Bradley and Emerson motion control systems.
• ControlNet, DeviceNet and Ethernet industrial networks.
• SCADA and HMI systems, including Allen-Bradley and Schneider platforms.
• Object-oriented programming and SQL Server / database technologies.

What We’re Looking For

• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Significant experience within automation engineering, equipment software or controls engineering in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong technical expertise in Allen-Bradley / Rockwell automation systems, including PLC programming and troubleshooting.
