Associate Director – Highways and Active Travel

Fehily Timoney and Company (FT) is one of Ireland’s largest indigenous consultancies specialising in Sustainable Infrastructure, Circular Economy, Environment, Energy and Renewables.

FT’s team of skilled civil, structural, and geotechnical engineers and scientists delivers comprehensive, sustainable design and project management solutions. We offer end-to-end consultancy services, encompassing site selection, feasibility studies, option evaluation, planning, detailed design, procurement, contract administration, and construction supervision.

FT is seeking to appoint an Associate Director for Highways and Active Travel to join our Sustainable Infrastructure team in either our Cork, Carlow or Dublin offices. This position is ideal for candidates with a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience.

The successful candidate will become part of an established and dynamic company, with the opportunity to expand their expertise and broaden their profession experience. The role provides exposure to a diverse range of projects, including national road schemes, greenway and active travel as well as major highways design and build schemes.

FT's Responsibilities

What would my main responsibilities be in this role?

  • Leading multidisciplinary design teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to quality standards
  • Managing a portfolio of projects including maintaining strong client relationships and overseeing communications across assigned projects
  • Mentoring and managing more junior Project Managers within the Highways and Active Travel Sector
  • Supervising and guiding both senior and junior team members within the Highways and Active Travel Sector
  • Planning and overseeing design work in collaboration with Engineering Discipline Leads and Technicians
  • Preparing technical reports and tender documentation
  • Coordinating effectively with other members of the project and wider infrastructure team
  • Ensuring adherence to quality assurance procedures, and management systems and all relevant health and safety legislation
Skills / Qualifications

Are you the right person for the role?

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline, with Chartered Engineer status
  • A minimum of 15 years post-graduate experience in the design and project management of highways, greenway and active travel schemes, including the delivery of schemes in Ireland in accordance with TII Project Management Guidelines and/or NTA Project Approval Guidelines
  • Experience in the delivery of design and build projects is desirable
  • Proven track record in managing multi-disciplinary design teams
  • Strong experience in liaising with clients, external stakeholders and sub-consultants
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage project budgets
  • Energetic, self-motivated professional with excellent communication, organisational, and analytical skills
  • Adaptable and collaborative team player
  • Capable of working independently and efficiently under minimal supervision
  • Willingness to travel for site visits and client meetings as required
  • Possession of a full, valid driver’s licence
