Job summary

GMC Utilities Group is seeking an experienced Assistant Stores Manager to join our busy Stores & Yard in Dublin. The role involves overseeing daily operations, receiving and organizing deliveries, and ensuring materials are available for projects.

You will supervise stores personnel, work closely with the Stores Manager, and maintain high safety and organisation standards in a busy industrial environment. A valid forklift licence is essential.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a builder’s provider, construction yard, or similar environment.
  • Experience in a supervisory or team-lead role is desirable.
  • Valid Forklift Licence is essential.
  • Strong stock control and goods‑in/goods‑out knowledge.
  • Ability to work in a busy, physically active environment.
  • Health & Safety awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Stores Manager with the daily operation and organisation of the stores and yard.
  • Receive, check and store deliveries.
  • Ensure materials, tools, plant and equipment are stored and accessible.
  • Issue materials and equipment to site teams.
  • Maintain stock levels and conduct regular stock checks.
  • Operate forklifts and yard equipment safely.
  • Keep yard and stores clean, organised and safe.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, drivers and site teams.

The Role.

GMC Utilities Group is seeking an experienced and hands‑on Assistant Stores Manager to join our team at our busy Stores & Yard in Dublin.

The successful candidate will assist in the day‑to‑day management of the stores and yard, ensuring materials, tools and equipment are received, stored and issued efficiently. This is a hands‑on role suited to someone with previous experience in a builder’s provider, construction yard or similar environment.

You will work closely with the Stores Manager and wider operations team to ensure the smooth running of the yard and the timely availability of materials for our projects.

Key Duties and Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  • Assist the Stores Manager with the daily operation and organisation of the stores and yard.
  • Support the receipt, checking and storage of deliveries.
  • Ensure materials, tools, plant and equipment are correctly stored and easily accessible.
  • Issue materials and equipment to site teams as required.
  • Maintain accurate stock levels and assist with regular stock checks and inventories.
  • Monitor stock movements and report shortages, damaged goods or discrepancies.
  • Operate forklifts and other relevant yard equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure the yard and stores are kept clean, organised and safe at all times.
  • Assist with loading and unloading deliveries.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, drivers, site teams and internal departments.
  • Assist with the organisation and preparation of materials for upcoming projects.
  • Ensure company tools, equipment and materials are properly maintained and accounted for.
  • Follow all company health & safety procedures and ensure safe working practices are maintained.
  • Assist with supervising and coordinating stores and yard personnel when required.
  • Support the Stores Manager with general administration, record keeping and reporting.
  • Carry out other duties as required to support the efficient running of the stores and yard.
The Candidate: Required Experience and Competencies:
  • Previous experience in a builder’s provider, construction yard, or similar environment.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or team‑lead role is desirable.
  • Valid Forklift Licence is essential.
  • Good understanding of stock control, goods‑in and goods‑out procedures.
  • Experience handling construction materials, tools, plant or equipment is an advantage.
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with site and office teams.
  • Ability to work in a busy, physically active environment.
  • Health & Safety awareness and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
