Tetra Tech is seeking an Assistant Project Manager for rail projects across the UK and Republic of Ireland. You will support planning, governance, reporting and risk management, coordinating with engineering, planning and commercial teams to ensure timely delivery and quality.
As you develop, you will take on defined tasks, assist with fee proposals and lessons‑learned activities, and contribute to professional development while supporting major rail programmes.
Locations: UK or Republic of Ireland
Join Tetra Tech’s growing rail team and help deliver some of the most exciting transport and infrastructure projects across the UK and Republic of Ireland. This is an excellent opportunity for an organised and motivated project professional to work alongside experienced project managers, engineers and technical specialists while developing a career in project management.
As an Assistant Project Manager, you will support the successful delivery of rail projects from planning through to completion. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, clients and wider project teams to coordinate information, monitor progress and maintain effective project controls.
Your responsibilities will include supporting project planning, governance, reporting, risk and issue management, document control and stakeholder coordination. As your experience develops, you will take ownership of defined project tasks and smaller commissions, contributing to the delivery of projects safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.
In this role, you will help keep complex rail projects organised, transparent and moving forward. Your attention to detail and ability to coordinate multiple inputs will support project teams in meeting scope, programme, budget and client requirements.
You will contribute to effective decision-making by maintaining accurate project information, tracking actions and risks, preparing clear reports and ensuring that key stakeholders receive the information they need at the right time. You will also support safe design reviews, assurance activities, stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement through lessons learned.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to build practical project management experience while making a meaningful contribution to major rail and infrastructure programmes.
Maintain project plans, milestone trackers, action logs, risk and issue registers, meeting records and document control systems. Track progress against scope, programme and budget, escalating issues where appropriate.
Coordinate inputs from engineering, planning, environmental, commercial and construction teams, ensuring information is complete, accurate and issued on time.
Prepare concise progress reports, forecasts and client presentation materials. Arrange and contribute to client, design and stakeholder meetings, recording decisions and following up outstanding actions.
Support change control, approvals, procurement activities and project governance processes. Contribute to risk management, assurance submissions and compliance with relevant client and project requirements.
Take responsibility for defined tasks and smaller commissions as experience grows. Support fee proposals, resource planning and lessons-learned activities, while actively seeking feedback and working towards relevant professional development.
This role is based in the UK or Republic of Ireland, with the location remaining flexible depending on the successful candidate and project requirements.
You may be required to travel to project sites, client offices and meetings across the UK and Ireland. The role may involve a combination of office-based, site-based and flexible working. The specific office base, working pattern, expected office attendance and opportunities for hybrid or remote working will be confirmed for the individual vacancy.
You will be expected to apply the relevant local duties, standards, health and safety requirements and client assurance arrangements applicable to each project.
