Job summary

At AstraZeneca in Athlone, the Manufacturing Shift Lead will oversee production activities in a 24x7 aseptic environment, lead and develop shift teams, and ensure high quality medicines are produced safely and on schedule.

You will work across Operations, Quality and Engineering, using SAP, TrackWise and process automation tools to maintain continuity and drive continuous improvement. This onsite role emphasizes hands-on leadership and strong problem solving.

Qualifications

• Experience in a cGMP aseptic manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of vial and syringe filling operations.
• Experience using controlled documentation such as SOPs and batch records.
• Confidence in making operational decisions, solving problems and escalating issues when needed.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships across manufacturing, quality and technical teams.
• Experience working with electronic manufacturing and quality systems such as SAP, TrackWise and process automation platforms.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and guide safe, compliant and efficient execution of production activities in line with the approved schedule, local priorities and patient supply requirements.
• Independently perform and oversee core production tasks across areas such as Formulation, Compounding, Pooling, Washing, Autoclaving, Sterilisation, Aseptic Filling, Visual Inspection and ancillary equipment preparation activities.
• Coordinate local shift activities, identify priorities, organise work teams effectively and maintain clear communication between shifts.
• Complete all tasks in accordance with approved SOPs, batch records and cGMP requirements, ensuring strong attention to detail and excellent documentation practices aligned with ALCOA+ principles.
• Perform and support MBR reviews, EQV deviation activities, change controls and event records as required.
• Assist with the investigation of operational deviations through the QMS, engaging relevant personnel and functions to ensure timely, robust and compliant resolution.
• Provide input to the creation, review and maintenance of area SOPs, batch records and other controlled documentation.
