Job description

Role details:

Permanent & full time (40 hours per week)

Salary:

€62,000 - €75,000

Location: Ireland - Remote
Who We Are

Isla Health is a venture-backed health-tech scale-up, supporting partners across the UK, EU and internationally. We've built a new category of healthcare technology which we refer to as the Digital Pathway Platform (DPP). Founded in 2019, we now support 25% of NHS Trusts and see 2 million submissions on the platform every year.

As a company, we're laser focused on enabling a scalable model of care which empowers healthcare staff and improves patient outcomes. The DPP supports this by setting up digital pathways which are remote-first and asynchronous. As pathways harness sophisticated automation, clinical algorithms and intelligent cohorting, patients always take the optimised route through their pathway, thereby delivering a step change in clinical productivity.

The role

We're looking for an Analytics Engineer to take ownership of how we structure, manage and use data across Isla.

As our platform scales, we have a huge opportunity to use our data to demonstrate clinical impact, improve our product and help teams make faster decisions. You'll be responsible for building the foundations that make this possible.

This is a broad, highly hands-on role spanning data engineering and analytics. You'll improve our data infrastructure, build reliable pipelines and models, and deliver the analysis, dashboards and reporting that help our teams and healthcare clients make better-informed and faster decisions.

We're looking for someone who can work independently, identify what needs improving and drive work forward without needing detailed direction. You'll work within our Product team, collaborating closely with Engineering on more complex infrastructure and architecture decisions, and with client-facing teams to turn data into meaningful insights. You'll play a key role in shaping our data capability as Isla grows.

What You’ll Do
  • Own and improve our analytical data infrastructure: Assess and improve how data is structured, modelled and managed in BigQuery, ensuring it's reliable, accessible and scalable. Work with Engineering on more complex infrastructure decisions, performance optimisation and cost efficiency
  • Build reliable data pipelines and models: Develop and maintain processes to collect, transform and structure data, establishing consistent definitions, documentation and quality controls, working cross-functionally to support business priorities
  • Deliver meaningful analytics and reporting: Analyse data and build dashboards that help Product, Delivery and Commercial teams make better decisions and demonstrate value to our healthcare clients
  • Improve how we measure impact: Ensure we're capturing the right data at source, identifying gaps in our existing data and developing reliable ways to measure product adoption, clinical efficiency and patient outcomes
  • Enable self-service insights: Develop accessible reporting tools and explore how AI can help teams safely access and interpret trusted data, with appropriate permissions and controls
  • Drive continuous improvement: Independently identify problems, prioritise improvements and introduce best practices that strengthen our data capability as Isla grows
Tech stack

Isla's DPP is built using modern cloud technologies, including Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Firebase, Node.js and TypeScript. We currently use BigQuery for analytics and reporting.

We're open-minded about how our data stack should evolve and are looking for someone with the experience and technical judgement to help us make the right decisions.

We also lean heavily into AI, and you'll be encouraged to explore tools that improve your own productivity and help us build smarter, more efficient workflows.

Requirements

We're looking for someone with strong professional experience in data engineering or analytics engineering, ideally with 5+ years working in data-focused roles. You'll have hands-on experience building and improving data pipelines, modelling complex datasets and delivering meaningful analytics. You'll be comfortable independently owning projects and improving how data is structured, managed and used.

  • SQL and analytical skills: Strong, hands-on SQL experience, including writing complex queries, modelling data and investigating datasets to answer meaningful product and business questions
  • Data pipelines: Experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines, including data transformation, orchestration and automation
  • Cloud data infrastructure: Experience with cloud-based data platforms, ideally GCP and BigQuery, although experience with AWS or Azure is equally valuable
  • Programming: Strong proficiency in data engineering, including developing data pipelines, transformations and automation. Python experience is particularly valuable
  • Data architecture: Experience designing scalable data warehouses, analytical layers and data structures, with an understanding of the trade-offs between different tech
  • Data quality: Experience implementing testing, validation, monitoring and data quality frameworks
  • Analytics and reporting: Hands-on experience using SQL to analyse complex datasets, develop meaningful metrics, build dashboards and produce insights that inform product or business decisions. You'll be comfortable delivering reporting and analysis yourself, not just building the infrastructure that supports it
Desirable Experience
  • Experience working in a startup or scale-up where you've built or significantly improved data infrastructure
  • Familiarity with version control, CI/CD, automated testing and infrastructure-as-code
  • Experience working with Firebase, Firestore or other NoSQL databases
  • Experience supporting customer-facing analytics products alongside internal reporting
  • Exposure to healthcare data, sensitive information or regulated environments
  • Experience with data governance, access controls and security practices
Benefits
  • Work from home - this is a remote first role
  • Flexible working times
  • Work abroad for up to 90 days per year
  • 25 days annual leave on top of Irish bank holidays. Plus, take your birthday off and another significant day off of your choice
  • Quarterly meal on us to treat friends or family
  • Private medical insurance
  • Enhanced parental leave to support your family when it matters most
  • Quarterly team socials based in London
  • An annual learning budget to support your growth
  • Work with purpose - you'll be delivering social impact through improved patient healthcare
  • Join at an exciting stage - we're a well-funded, rapidly growing health tech company tackling a global challenge
  • Help shape the future of Isla - your ideas won't disappear into layers of management. You'll have real ownership, real impact, and help define how we grow the business
What is the hiring process for this role at Isla?

Interviewing for the role will be split into 4 stages (all conducted virtually):
