About An Púcán

An Púcán is one of Galway’s most vibrant and iconic bars, known for its lively atmosphere, extensive whiskey selection, award-winning food, live music, and warm Irish hospitality. Located in the heart of the city, it’s a destination for both locals and tourists, offering a memorable experience day and night. We’re now seeking a dynamic, experienced General Manager to lead the team and continue building on our success.

Position Summary

As General Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management and strategic direction of An Púcán. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong operational skills, a passion for hospitality, team motivation, and a sharp focus on delivering exceptional customer experiences. You’ll lead a large, fast-paced team and be a visible, approachable presence on the floor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all bar and restaurant operations, ensuring efficient service, high standards, and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead and manage a team of supervisors, floor staff, bartenders, chefs, and security personnel.
  • Drive revenue and profitability through strong financial controls, budgeting, forecasting, and cost management.
  • Create and maintain a positive team culture through training, development, and performance management, working with HR.
  • Collaborate with marketing to drive promotional events, seasonal campaigns, and brand visibility.
  • Ensure compliance with licensing laws, health and safety, and food hygiene standards.
  • Manage supplier relationships, stock control, and purchasing.
  • Handle customer queries and complaints professionally, maintaining the highest level of guest satisfaction.
  • Monitor and analyze sales trends and performance metrics, making data-driven decisions.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 4+ years' experience in a similar senior hospitality management role, ideally in a high-volume bar or gastropub.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire and manage large teams.
  • Strong knowledge of food and beverage operations, particularly in Irish bar culture.
  • Financially savvy with experience in budget control, stock management, and P&L responsibility.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • A flexible, can-do attitude and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Familiarity with systems, scheduling software, and other hospitality tools.

Desirable Skills

  • A passion for whiskey, live music, and Irish hospitality.
  • Knowledge of Galway’s tourism and nightlife scene.
  • Event planning or entertainment coordination experience.
