Lucena Clinic provides a comprehensive Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service for young people presenting with moderate to severe mental health disorders, to defined catchment areas, with an under 18 population of 172,585, residing in South Dublin City and County plus North and West County Wicklow. Clinical Teams are based throughout the catchment area operating clinics in Tallaght, Rathgar, Dun Laoghaire, Bray, Wicklow town and Arklow.

Saint John of God Community Services, Community Mental Health Services Lucena Service are now inviting applications for the post of Advanced Nurse Practitioner, (CAMHs ADHD) for a community CAMHs team. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, flexible, innovative and committed to providing a quality service that responds to the needs and priorities of our service users and families.

Role Summary

The Advanced Nurse Practitioner, (CAMHs - ADHD) post will work across community CAMHs teams.

Advanced Nurse Practitioners are educated to master's degree level and have the competencies to be senior decision makers that undertake a comprehensive advanced mental health assessment of patients with complex multiple healthcare needs. They can interpret the results of multiple different assessments and investigations to make a diagnosis, and plan and deliver care.

As Advanced Nurse Practitioners, they can confidently and competently make ethical, evidence-based decisions and interventions and use appropriate therapies when faced with complexity and assess and manage the risk associated with these decisions. The ANPs can prescribe and work with individuals to manage their medicines.

Typically, they work independently but also as part of an interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary team where they plan and provide skilled and competent care to meet a patient's health and social care needs. Involving or referring on to other members of the healthcare team as appropriate they can safely discharge a patient within their scope of practice. Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioners (RANPs) work within an agreed scope of practice and meet established criteria set by Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) to register as either an RANP

The value of the nursing contribution as a distinct profession must be safeguarded and articulated in the development of new services led by advanced nurse practitioners, complementing rather than replacing current services delivered by doctors (NMBI 2017 p.9).

The overall purpose of the post is to provide safe, timely, evidenced based nurse-led care to patients at an advanced nursing level. This involves undertaking and documenting a complete episode of patient care (assess, diagnose, plan, treat and discharge patients) according to collaboratively agreed protocols and scope of practice in the clinical setting; demonstrating advanced clinical and theoretical knowledge, critical thinking, clinical leadership and decision-making skills.

The advanced practice role demonstrates a high degree of knowledge, skill and experience that is applied within the nurse-patient/client relationship to achieve optimal outcomes through critical analysis, problem solving and accurate decision-making (NMBI, 2017).

Central to this is the provision of quality care, a safe environment and processes for patients by the use of evidence based clinical guidelines that address patient expectations, promote wellness and evaluate care given.

The role will provide clinical leadership and professional scholarship in order to develop nursing practice and health policy at local, regional and national level.

The role will contribute to nursing research to shape and advance nursing practice, education and health care policy at local, national and international levels.

Minimum Requirements

(a) Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:

(i) Are registered in the Advanced Nurse Practitioner division of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland Register maintained by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland [NMBI] (Bord Altranais agus Cnaimhseachais na hEireann).

Or

(ii) Be eligible to register in the Advanced Nurse Practitioner division of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland Register maintained by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland [NMBI] (Bord Altranais agus Cnaimhseachais na hEireann) by meeting the criteria for registration as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner as specified www.nmbi.ie

And

(iii) Have a broad base of clinical experience relevant to the advanced field of practice of ADHD

And

(iv) Demonstrates the competences relevant to the specialist area of advanced practice of ADHD

And

(b) Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability including a high standard of suitability and clinical, professional and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.

2. Annual registration

(i) On appointment, practitioners must maintain live annual registration on the Advanced Nurse Practitioner Division of the register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (Bord Altranais agus Cnaimhseachais na hEireann) for the role

And

(ii) Practitioners must confirm annual registration with NMBI to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).

Note that appointment to and continuation in posts that require statutory registration is dependent upon the post holder maintaining annual registration in the relevant division of the register maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (Bord Altranais agus Cnaimhseachais na hEireann)

Remuneration

Salary Grade 2266 ADVANCED NURSE PRACTITIONER (MENTAL HEALTH) on the Consolidated HSE Pay Scale €74,496 - €89,894 per annum

Initial location

The initial location of this role is Lucena Rathgar. However, you may be required, from time to time, to work at SJOG CS's other places of business or/and the premises of such associated s companies or organisations as SJOG CS may require. You will be given as much notice of any such change of place of work as is reasonably practicable.
