Job summary

Leopardstown Care Centre is seeking an Activities Coordinator to support residents with daily activities under nursing staff supervision. The role emphasizes privacy, dignity, and compassionate care within a nursing home setting.

You will plan daily and weekly activity programs, maintain resident files and Life Story Books, and assist with orientation and training. Flexibility for escort duties and cross-area work is required.

Qualifications

  • Healthcare or social care qualification required.
  • Experience in a similar role preferred.
  • Excellent communication and empathetic approach.
  • Fluent English both written and spoken.
  • Desirable Sonas/Imagination Gym courses.

Responsibilities

  • Organise daily activities such as arts, crafts, baking, quizzes, bingo, and walks.
  • Plan and implement special activities like outings and seasonal celebrations.
  • Create daily/weekly activity schedules and maintain resident files.
  • Maintain Life Story Books and update staff on residents' condition.
  • Assist orientation for new residents and participate in training.
  • Perform escort duties and work across areas as required.

Job description

Leopardstown Care Centre is currently inviting applications to the role of Activities Coordinator.

Purpose of the Role

The role of Activities Coordinator is to support the Residents in carrying on of their daily activities under the direction and supervision of qualified nursing staff. The Activities Coordinator will ensure that the Resident's privacy and dignity is respected at all times.

What does this role entail?
  • Organising and maintaining on a daily basis standard activities which include (but are not limited to) arts and crafts, baking, gardening, flower arranging, newspapers quizzes, card games, bingo, exercise sessions, walks, hand massages, nail care, arranging hairdressing appointments, sensory room and arranging attendance at mass or other religious services.
  • Planning and implementing special activities which include (but are not limited to) outings, garden visits, birthday parties, Christmas and other seasonal celebrations.
  • Drawing up a daily and weekly program of activities.
  • Maintaining daily files and charts for each Resident that provide clear evidence of the activities planned and carried out.
  • Ensuring each resident has an up to date and complete “Life Story Book”
  • Keeping the nursing staff up to date on Resident’s condition
  • Assisting with the orientation of new Residents to then Nursing Home environment
  • Attending in-service training and education programmes as may be required
  • Perform escort duties as required, which may from time to time involve duty beyond rostered hours
  • Work in any area of the Nursing Home as may be required.
What are the qualifications/skills needed?
  • Relevant qualification in Healthcare/Social care
  • Experience in a similar role
  • Completion of Sonas & Imagination Gym courses (desirable but not essential)
  • Enthusiastic, caring, reliable and empathetic nature
  • Strong Communication skills
  • Fluent level of English both written and oral
