Responsibilities

  • Grade assignments and exams and provide constructive feedback.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and quality assurance processes.
  • Offer student guidance via office hours, tutorials, and academic advising.
  • Supervise business research projects and supervise exams as needed.

Role Description The Lecturer in Finance will deliver high-quality, engaging lectures and seminars to undergraduate and/or postgraduate students in finance and related business subjects. Day‑to‑day responsibilities include preparing and updating teaching materials, designing assessments, grading assignments and exams, and providing constructive feedback to support student learning. The role involves contributing to curriculum development, staying current with developments in finance and business education, and participating in academic meetings and quality assurance processes. The lecturer will also provide guidance and support to students through office hours, tutorials, and academic advising.

Applicants must be Galway based or available to lecture in Galway City onsite.

Candidates will at a minimum hold a Master's degree, have a balance of lecturing and industry experience, and ideally have knowledge of course and programme development, delivery and assessment.

Teaching Business & related subjects
  • Preparation of all materials related to taught courses and assessment / correction of assignments and exams as appropriate
  • Ability to deliver specific modules that are aligned to MIMLOs and MIMPLOs and ensuring that each element fits into the student experience of the whole programme
  • Ability to work as part of a team to enhance the teaching learning and assessment strategies of the school as well as enhancing the student experience
  • Engagement with the Virtual Learning Environment and ensuring that all materials and lectures are up to date and fit for purpose and have a keen appreciation of academic integrity requirements
  • Providing support and guidance to students as required especially during office hours / tutorials and at other times depending on the needs of the student.
  • Being responsible for supervision of business research projects related to your field of expertise
  • Preparation of students for assignments & exams
  • Provision of guidance on student research projects and dissertations. Attendance at staff and other academic and committee meetings, induction days, revision days, graduations, etc.
  • Promoting a positive image of the School
  • Supervision of exams or other duties that may be required outside usual teaching hours
Qualifications
  • Candidates will at a minimum hold a Master's degree,
  • Demonstrated experience in Lecturing or higher education teaching in accounting, finance or similar, including designing and delivering modules and assessments.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with a student-centered and inclusive teaching approach.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage part-time teaching commitments and deadlines effectively.
  • Experience with digital learning tools, learning management systems, and innovative teaching methodologies is an advantage.
  • Professional experience in the finance or business sector and engagement with industry networks is highly beneficial.
