The well cleaning engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of chemical pumping equipment and systems used in geothermal energy operations. This role involves preparing, operating, and maintaining chemical pumping systems to support geothermal well stimulation, scaling prevention, and other operational requirements. The engineer is expected to have a sound understanding of control systems and PLC controllers, 4-20mA instruments, and flow meter troubleshooting.
The ideal candidate will have experience in chemical handling, pumping operations, and a strong commitment to safety and environmental compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Tasks
- Operate and monitor chemical pumping equipment during geothermal operations.
- Prepare and calibrate pumps, hoses, tanks, and other related equipment to meet job requirements.
- Mix, transfer, and inject chemicals as specified by job procedures and operational needs.
- Conduct pre- and post-operation inspections of equipment and systems to ensure reliability.
- Monitor system performance, including pressure, flow rates, and temperature, to ensure optimal efficiency.
- Safety and Compliance
- Follow all company safety protocols, environmental guidelines, and regulatory standards.
- Handle chemicals in accordance with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and best practices.
- Respond to and report any spills, leaks, or unsafe conditions immediately.
- Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting on chemical pumping systems.
- Identify, communicate and manage the need for equipment repairs or replacements.
- Ensure proper storage, labeling, and disposal of chemicals and related materials.
- Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of pumping operations, chemical usage, and maintenance activities.
- Complete job tickets, logs, and other required documentation promptly.
- Assist in preparing post-job reports and incident analyses as needed.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Engineering degree or suitable trade qualification and experience.
- 10+ years of experience in chemical pumping, oil and gas, geothermal, or similar industries.
- Experience in geothermal and familiarity with geothermal energy systems is preferred, including but not limited to:
- Well head valves operation.
- Maintenance or experience connecting and disconnecting to geothermal well lines, plant and/or wells.
- Understanding and appreciation of working with steam and pressure.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of chemical pumping systems, fluid dynamics, and equipment maintenance.
- Knowledge of safety regulations related to chemical handling and high-pressure systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve control system issues.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve equipment and operational issues.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals, job instructions, and schematics.
Certifications (preferred or required):
- HAZMAT or HAZWOPER certification.
- Forklift and heavy equipment operation certification.
- Valid driver’s license and, if applicable, CDL for operating specialized vehicles.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform tasks requiring physical endurance.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and remote locations.
- Comfortable with extended shifts and on-call schedules.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing job requirements and environments.
