Tooling Engineer (Plastic)

OVERVIEW:

The ideal applicant would have strong knowledge of injection tooling processes, excellent tooling design experience, and development skills. Problem-solving and good documentation skills are also required. The candidate must speak and write English proficiently. Global manufacturing experience is desired, and working travel is required.

Responsibilities:

• Travel to OEM, tooling supplier, molding shop sites for injection molding issue solutions, technical supplier assessment, process development and validation, or issue resolution.
• Handle viewing DFM with NPD and NPI, OEM engineering, tooling supplier, etc., across project teams.
• Review and improve Tooling 2D & 3D drawings with OEM and tooling supplier.
• Design experience and familiarity with complex structure tooling at O/molding, double color tooling, tooling with hot runner system, etc. Strong tooling concept for tooling design.
• Handle and analyze tooling capacity and yield issues for projects and drive root cause corrective action across internal and supplier factories.
• Estimate tooling capacity analysis based on molding data and make out duplicated tools to rebuild and meet production ramp plans.
• Monitor tooling build and modify processes and ensure they are on schedule.
• Deal with sudden tooling and molding issues at molding suppliers with effective solutions.
• Travel to internal supplier sites to support process development efforts and issue resolution with 40-50% travel.
• Ensure tasks are delivered on time; meet performance, quality, and reliability goals.
• Participate in Critical Engineering Reviews to ensure product and process design for tooling making and molding.

Required Skills/Qualifications / Experience:

• Experience in Plastics Engineering, Molding Design Engineering, Mechanical Engineering. At least 5-10 years of experience in plastic tooling design and tooling project management development.
• Proficient knowledge of software such as Pro/E, AutoCAD, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Proficient oral and written English communication skills.
• Strong technical experience and interpersonal skills in a team across different functional teams.

Education/Certifications/Affiliations:

• Bachelor of Engineering
• CET-4 (College English Test 4)

Travel Requirements:

• Traveling to CN/SEA supplier factories required.
