Job Summary:The Technician I assists the Plant Superintendent to insure the proper operation of the wastewater treatment and collection facilities. This person carries out specific assigned duties under the supervision and direction of the Plant Superintendent. Assignments include but are not limited to operation, maintenance and administrative duties throughout the wastewater facilities. Technician I will be under the direct supervision of a certified operator.
Supervisory responsibilities:General staff when Superintendent not presentEssential functions:- Helps coordinate with other departments all sewage treatment operations.
- Monitor and adjust all systems related to the treatment of wastewater.
- Performs the lab and analysis of the same.
- Assist in repair of line breaks when needed.
- Maintenance and general repair of all areas of wastewater facilities, to include construction related activities on site at the treatment plant as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:- Knowledge of materials, methods, practices and equipment used in maintenance, operation and repair of sewage treatment facilities.
- Skill in mechanical troubleshooting repairs.
- Skill in preparing clear and concise reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, sub-contractors and the general public.
- Must have knowledge of lift stations for repair and maintenance when needed.
Qualifications:Education and experience:- Must be a High School graduate or its equivalent in education or experience.
- Possess a valid driver’s license, CDL preferred.
- Willing to work overtime or non-standard hours when necessary.
- Prefer specialized courses in plant operations.
Licenses and Certifications:Grade II or higher Operators Certificate as issued by ADEM preferred.
Must be able to obtain a Grade II Operators Certificate within 2 year.
Physical demands:The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities; recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as typewriters and record boxes. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities such as above-average agility and dexterity.
Work environment:The work involves moderate risks or discomforts, which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts, machines and irritant chemicals, etc. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles or shields.
