McDermott International is seeking a Structural Engineer to apply foundational Structural Engineering knowledge, solving straightforward problems under guidance. The role involves analyzing design options using standard procedures and building familiarity with project scope, specifications, schedules, and inter-discipline requirements.

You will perform analyses and calculations, prepare design reports, and support in bid evaluations while coordinating with design/drafting teams and construction

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Engineering is required.
• 3–8 years of oil and gas experience with a major contractor or consultant is desirable.
• Registered Engineer in Training (EIT) or professional engineering society membership is desirable.
• English proficiency (oral and written) is required.
• HSE, TQM and cost-conscious mindset is expected.

Responsibilities

• Perform FEED, studies, and detailed design engineering, analyses, and calculations on complex tasks.
• Prepare clear and accurate detailed design calculations, analyses, reports and procedures.
• Prioritize work to meet deadlines and budgets; communicate engineering information clearly.
• Interface with other disciplines to obtain input; perform analyses of structures with guidance from seniors.
• Assist in preparation of specifications and check drafting, and participate in IDC.

Job Overview:

The Structural Engineer applies their conceptual knowledge of Structural (Eng) and with a moderate level of guidance and direction from colleagues and leadership, is responsible for solving a range of straightforward Structural (Eng) problems. They will be responsible for analyzing possible solutions using standard procedures, as well as building knowledge of the company, processes, and customers. The Structural Engineer understands key business drivers and applies this knowledge to solve problems in straightforward situations through analysis of possible solutions using technical experience, judgment, and precedents.

Responsibilities

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Perform FEED, Studies, and detailed design engineering, analysis, and calculations on more complex and demanding engineering tasks
• Apply knowledge and skills to complete varied assignments
• Prepare clear and accurate detailed design calculations and analyses including design reports and procedures
• Prioritize and organize own work to meet deadlines
• Focus on completing work within budgets
• Clearly communicate and explain information in straightforward engineering activities
• Gain familiarity with the project scope of work, specifications, schedule, and all inter-discipline requirements; including identifying concerns as early as practicable
• Initiate interface with other disciplines to obtain input for discipline designs
• Perform computer analyses of structures designed by others with guidance from Senior/PPL engineers
• Assist in the preparation of specifications with guidance from colleagues
• Perform engineering check of drafting
• Performs engineering checks prepared by others within the discipline
• Perform design verification through single discipline check and assist with inter-discipline checks (IDC)
• Prepare & review MTO’s of structures under supervision
• Provide engineering support as required
• Assist in the preparation of subcontract documents
• Assist in bid evaluations

Reports to:
Project: Lead Engineer
Functional: Supervising Department Manager
Liaise with: All design/drafting disciplines, all Engineering disciplines, Construction site/Fabrication groups, and Document
control
Supervises: Trainee Engineers

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications and Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Engineering
• 3-8 years of experience in oil and gas with a major contractor or consultant predominantly performing detail design, or equivalent experience in a similar project environment is desirable
• Preferably a Registered Engineer in Training (ElT) or member of a professional engineering society desirable
• Eager to learn
• Working knowledge of English, both oral and written
• HSE, TQM and cost-conscious
• Show flexibility and ensure proper hand-over with regards to:
• The reassignment to other departments, construction sites, and fabrication yards
• The replacement of colleagues during illness and holidays
• The provision of assistance to other colleagues with heavy workloads (also other projects) when possible/desirable
• The managing/learning of future current working methods and software applications
• Accredited engineering degree as may be required by specific regions
• Familiar with the content and application of standards, codes, and guidelines as applicable
• Knowledge of many basic design techniques and analysis methods
