Job description

The Support Teacher for Special Educational Needs (SEN) students plays a crucial role in fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment where all students, regardless of their abilities, can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Their purpose is to provide individualized and group support to students with diverse learning needs, ensuring equal access to quality education in alignment with the school's mission and international standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Individualized Students Support

Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with special educational needs (SEN).

Assist in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or Personalized Learning Plans (PLPs).

Adapt lesson materials and instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs.

Support students in developing academic, social, and life skills.

Classroom Assistance

Work closely with classroom teachers to modify and differentiate lessons for SEN students.

Ensure an inclusive learning environment by assisting with classroom activities and transitions.

Implement appropriate assistive technology, visual aids, and sensory tools to enhance learning.

Behavioral and Emotional Support

Help students develop self-regulation and coping strategies for emotional and behavioral challenges.

Provide guidance in social interactions, communication, and conflict resolution.

Reinforce positive behavior and implement behavior management strategies in collaboration with teachers and specialists.

Collaboration with teachers and Specialist

Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, including special educators, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and counselors.

Communicate regularly with classroom teachers to monitor progress and adjust support strategies.

Participate in team meetings to discuss student progress and intervention plans.

Communication with Parents and Guardian

Maintain open and professional communication with parents regarding student progress and challenges.

Provide feedback and recommendations for home-based support and strategies.

Attend parent-teacher meetings and contribute to discussions on student development.

Record Keeping and Documentation

Support or lead extracurricular music programs, such as after-school clubs, talent shows, or community outreach projects.

Maintain accurate records of student progress, challenges, and interventions.

Assist in writing reports and contributing to assessments of student needs.

Ensure confidentiality and compliance with school policies and regulations regarding SEN support.

Professional Development

Stay updated with best practices in special education and inclusive teaching.

Attend workshops, training sessions, and professional development programs related to SEN.

Share knowledge and strategies with colleagues to promote an inclusive school culture.

Additional Duties

Provide in-class support or pull-out sessions based on student needs.

Assist students in non-academic activities, such as field trips, extracurricular activities, and social skills training.

Foster a safe, respectful, and encouraging learning environment for all students.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education, Education, Psychology, or a related field (preferred).

Having experience working with SEN students will be an advantage.

Additional training in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, Dyslexia, Speech & Language Therapy, or Behavior Management is an advantage

Minimum 2 work references from previous employers.

Cambridge, MAP, and WIDA experience a plus.

Proficiency in the English language.

Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices for young learners.

Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Passion for teaching and a commitment to providing quality education to young learners.
