Job summary

Grab in Jakarta is seeking a Mobile (iOS) Software Engineer to build iOS features used by driver partners, including communication experiences, AI-assisted workflows, and offline-first screens that remain reliable in real-world conditions.

You will collaborate with product managers, designers, backend engineers, data analysts, and other mobile engineers to deliver features for the Grab driver app, reporting to the Software Engineering Manager and working entirely on-site in the Jakarta office.

Qualifications

• Up to 2 years of professional iOS development experience using Swift and iOS SDK.
• Knowledge of mobile architecture patterns (MVC, MVVM, VIPER or similar).
• Experience integrating mobile apps with RESTful APIs or backend services.
• Experience with unit testing or integration testing for iOS.
• Interest in AI, LLM-powered apps, chatbots, or conversational UX.

Responsibilities

• Develop iOS features using Swift for driver communication, AI-assisted workflows, and offline-first screens.
• Integrate iOS applications with backend APIs and platform components for reliable experiences.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to translate requirements into deliverables.
• Write testable code and participate in code reviews to maintain quality.
• Address app performance, reliability, and offline behavior through debugging and testing.

Get to Know the Role

You will join our team in Jakarta as a Mobile (iOS) Software Engineer. You will build iOS features used by driver partners across the region, including communication experiences, AI-assisted workflows, and offline-first screens that remain reliable in real-world operating conditions.

You will work with product managers, designers, backend engineers, data analysts, and other mobile engineers to build features for the Grab driver app. You will report to the Software Engineering Manager and based fully on-site in Jakarta office.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• You will develop iOS features using Swift for driver communication, AI-assisted workflows, and offline-first screens that handle unstable network conditions.
• You will integrate iOS applications with backend APIs and mobile platform components to deliver reliable user experiences.
• You will collaborate with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to understand requirements and evaluate product impact through data analysis.
• You will write testable code following established engineering standards and participate in code reviews to maintain product quality.
• You will resolve issues related to app performance, reliability, and offline behavior through debugging and testing.
• You will contribute to app stability through unit testing, integration testing, and validation of features before release.

Qualifications

What Essential Skills You Will Need

• Up to 2 years of professional iOS development experience, internship experience, or project experience building iOS applications using Swift and the iOS SDK. You will use Swift daily to build features for the driver app.
• Understanding of mobile application architecture patterns (MVC, MVVM, VIPER, or similar). You will apply these patterns to structure code for features that communicate with AI systems and handle offline scenarios.
• Working knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming. You will use these to write efficient code for processing hundreds of millions of requests and to solve technical problems during feature development.
• Experience integrating mobile applications with RESTful APIs or backend services. You will connect iOS features to backend systems that power driver communication and AI-assisted workflows.
• Experience using AI agent-assisted coding tools and spec-driven development workflows to design, implement, and validate software changes. You will use these tools to build features more efficiently and maintain code quality.
• Experience with unit testing or integration testing for iOS applications. You will write tests to ensure features work correctly, especially for offline functionality and network‑resilient components.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience building offline‑capable or network‑resilient mobile features.
• Familiarity with mobile storage technologies such as Core Data, SQLite, Realm, or similar.
• Experience with unit testing, UI testing, or automated testing in iOS.
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, release processes, or mobile observability tools.
• Interest in AI, LLM‑powered applications, chatbots, or conversational product experiences.
• Experience with GraphQL, WebSocket, gRPC, or real‑time communication features.
• Familiarity with large‑scale mobile applications or modular mobile architectures.
• Experience working in cross‑functional or regional teams.
