The Senior Production Engineer applies best practices and industry knowledge to enhance the production discipline within McDermott. They serve as a resource for less experienced colleagues, sharing their conceptual and practical expertise related to production. The Senior Production Engineer addresses complex problems and leverages their discipline-specific knowledge to improve products or services.
ResponsibilitiesKey Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Guide and ensure discipline production engineers understand the scope of work and project schedule.
- Review Work Packages to ensure they are issued based on fabrication sequence and schedule.
- Develop a work pack index, set priorities, and align with the project schedule.
- Ensure proper documentation and procedural compliance throughout all project phases.
- Review material expediting reports, raising concerns to identify mitigation strategies with relevant parties (e.g., PMT, Project Engineer, Project SCM).
- Initiate site/technical queries to resolve fabrication/construction issues effectively.
- Provide field guidance as needed, ensuring compliance with project and company specifications.
- Attend production meetings and report concerns.
- Identify scope changes or additional work and initiate change orders as required.
- Monitor discipline-level project fabrication progress to ensure adherence to schedule and productivity targets, coordinating with the Fabrication Coordinator.
- Develop fabrication four-week look-ahead plans, prioritizing materials and drawings to align with the project schedule, and communicate issues to the Fabrication Coordinator or PMT.
- Lead the Discipline Production Engineering team, coordinating with stakeholders (e.g., Detailing, Construction Engineer, Material Controllers) to meet fabrication requirements.
- Establish productive relationships with Project Superintendents and Supervision teams to meet fabrication targets.
- Contribute to project constructability reviews at the discipline level, resolving construction issues and ensuring work execution plans are optimized.
- Support the Fabrication Coordinator in managing interfaces and project reporting, including AFC estimate review, subcontractor coordination, and status reporting.
- Supervise discipline Production Engineers, ensuring optimal resource utilization and identifying resource needs.
- Develop and mentor junior engineers, fostering their professional growth and knowledge development.
QualificationsEssential Qualifications and Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (steel construction), Ocean/Offshore Engineering, or Shipbuilding/Naval Engineering.
- Minimum six (6) years of experience in oil & gas and/or renewable energy fabrication and construction projects with major contractors or consultants.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of onshore/offshore Oil & Gas construction industry.
- Familiarity with industry codes, standards, and best practices related to production processes and project execution.
- Relevant training or certifications in Project Execution.
- Proven experience in the EPCI industry or similar engineering fields.
- Track record of leading teams and managing large-scale projects.
- Strong problem-solving skills for complex technical challenges.
- Understanding of discipline-level fabrication strategies for complex projects with multinational teams and clients.
- Effective communication skills for stakeholder collaboration.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
