Job summary

The Power Business is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to bolster our power team delivering high voltage substations across Australasia. You will lead design activities for transmission and distribution projects and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Based in Australia or New Zealand, you will mentor junior engineers, ensure compliance with IEC/AS/NZS/IEEE standards, and work under a Principal Engineer to deliver robust, safe designs up to 500 kV.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in electrical engineering.
• 7+ years of experience in high voltage substation design.
• Familiar with IEC, AS/NZS, and IEEE standards.
• Experience with substations layouts and single line diagrams.
• Experience sizing CT and VT.
• Strong written and verbal English and Bahasa Indonesia.

Responsibilities

• Develop and design HV substation concepts up to 500 kV.

With a strong pipeline of exciting projects, our team is growing. We are looking for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to bolster our technical capability to deliver high voltage substation designs to an enviable list of transmission and distribution clients.

This opportunity is an exciting and varied role for an enthusiastic individual willing to grow into a leader which will allow you to be involved in major energy transition projects in Australia and New Zealand alongside a high performing team.

In This Role, The Key Responsibilities Include

• Development and design of electrical designs of transmission and distribution substations up to voltages of 500 kV;
• Work under the supervision of a Principal Engineer (local and/or international);
• Mentor, develop, and lead junior staff in delivering and preparing designs;
• Develop understanding of Australian and New Zealand client standards;
• Undertake self‑checks of work packages using standard checklists, preparing packages for verification and quality checks;
• Collaborate with teams based in Australia and New Zealand to deliver coordinated designs to meet client expectations.

About You

Your technical skills are based on solid fundamentals and have been proven through the delivery of power engineering projects. You are experienced and have a passion for learning and collaborating as part of a wider team and are driven by taking on exciting new opportunities.

Preferably, you will have proven capability across a range of the following areas:

• Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering;
• Preferably having a minimum of 7+ years working experience in designs for high voltage electricity networks;
• Understanding international standards such as IEC, AS/NZS, and IEEE;
• Understanding of substation layouts and Single Line Diagrams;
• Undertaking calculations for CT and VT sizing;
• Be organised and able to multi‑task;
• Excellent written & spoken communication skills in English and Bahasa Indonesia;
• Apply strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with a team of engineers and designers (locally and/or internationally) to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget;
• Consultancy experience is advantageous but not essential.
