Senior Engineer Steam System and Utilities - Smelter
This role is responsible for statutory inspections and compliance for all boilers on site – 5 major Waste Heat Recovery Boilers plus one utility Auxiliary Boiler – along with associated equipment (superheater, condenser, a Steam Turbine Generator, a common boiler feedwater system, reagent dosing systems, feedwater pumps, circulation pumps, etc.). The role also involves boiler condition monitoring, operation, and control. Key aspects include technical management and implementation of steam system design/control changes, expert advice and supervision for boiler modifications and repairs, and regular reporting on the condition of steam and cooling water systems.
Some of your duties will include:
- Supervising the technical operation and providing engineering support to maintenance and operations for steam systems across the smelter and Powerhouse area, as well as utilities systems site-wide.
- Analyzing machine performance, processes, and output to influence condition monitoring and predictive maintenance, along with technical training to enhance productivity and plant availability.
- Supervising the operation of the Plant Information (PI) System for plant-wide monitoring and data analysis.
- Implementing Standard Operating Procedures and ensuring compliance with statutory, safety, health, and environmental standards.
- Monitoring performance and facilitating continuous training of the technical team supporting steam system and utilities operations.
What skills and experience do you need?
- Graduate in Chemical Engineering.
- 8+ years in heavy manufacturing or processing plants with notable experience in steam systems, including large medium-pressure boilers, superheaters, steam condensers, steam turbine generators, and related equipment like reagent dosing systems, feedwater systems, economisers, and blowdown tanks.
- Experience with a large-scale Oxygen Plant (Air Separation Unit) providing oxygen and nitrogen to the smelter is an advantage.
- Knowledge of industrial utility and reagent systems such as cooling water (including seawater systems), cooling towers, compressed air, instrument air, process water, firewater, raw water, potable water, natural gas, diesel/HFO, sewage treatment, and tailings water reclamation.
- Advanced operational knowledge of water treatment plants (ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, electro-deionisation).
