Job summary

Sea Labs Indonesia, part of Sea's engineering arm powering Shopee, seeks an experienced Backend Engineer to design and build reliable, scalable systems. You will integrate AI/LLM capabilities, mentor teammates, and collaborate with product, frontend, QA, and global teams to ship high-quality software.

The role emphasizes distributed systems, microservices, databases, CI/CD, and cloud platforms with a strong bias toward performance and reliability.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend development experience with Java, Go, or Python.
• Strong distributed systems, microservices, and API design knowledge.
• Proficiency with relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL) and Redis.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
• Ability to conduct constructive code reviews to improve quality.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms (AWS/GCP).
• Hands-on experience integrating AI/LLM APIs in backend services.
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures using Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Ability to mentor junior engineers and promote best practices.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement reliable, performant, scalable backend systems.
• Write high-quality, clean, maintainable code.
• Collaborate with product managers, frontend engineers, and QA teams across the full development lifecycle.
• Lead technical design discussions and produce thorough design documents.
• Conduct constructive code reviews to improve team code quality.
• Integrate AI/LLM capabilities into backend services.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews and pairing.
• Proactively identify technical debt and performance bottlenecks and drive solutions.
• Communicate technical constraints and trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
