Overview
The R&D Staff – Beverages Specialist is responsible for creating, testing, and refining beverage recipes that complement the fried chicken restaurant chain’s menu. This role supports the development of innovative drink offerings, seasonal specials, and cost-effective formulations while ensuring consistency, operational practicality, and compliance with brand standards. The position works closely with the R&D Assistant Manager, procurement, operations, and marketing teams to bring beverage concepts from idea to launch.
Responsibilities
- Beverage Product Development: Develop new beverage recipes including iced drinks, sodas, milk-based beverages, tea blends, and signature drinks. Innovate seasonal and promotional beverages aligned with brand identity and customer preferences. Modify existing beverages to improve taste, presentation, and profitability. Prepare detailed beverage recipes, portion sizes, and preparation methods for operational use. Work with procurement to source ingredients and evaluate supplier options. Assist in beverage costing to ensure target margins are met.
- Product Testing & Quality Control: Conduct trials for new beverages in the test kitchen and pilot outlets. Evaluate flavor, texture, presentation, and consistency to meet brand standards. Implement quality benchmarks for beverage ingredients and preparation methods. Coordinate with operations to ensure beverage recipes are practical for outlet execution. Work with marketing to prepare beverage launch materials and promotional campaigns. Support procurement in identifying innovative beverage ingredients and equipment.
- Training & Support: Assist in training outlet staff on beverage preparation techniques and standards. Develop visual guides, manuals, or videos for new beverage procedures.
- Compliance & Standards: Ensure all beverages comply with Halal certification and local health regulations. Follow brand guidelines for presentation and portioning. Monitor beverage trends and competitor offerings for inspiration. Gather customer feedback and suggest improvements to beverage products.
Job Requirements
- Education & Experience: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts, Food & Beverage, Food Technology, or related field. Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in beverage development or barista/mixology work, preferably in QSR or café environments.
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of beverage formulation, flavour balancing, and ingredient pairing. Proficient in recipe documentation, costing, and preparation methods. Familiarity with beverage equipment and operational workflows.
- Creativity & Innovation: Ability to create appealing and operationally efficient beverages. Awareness of market trends and seasonal beverage concepts.
- Soft Skills & Attributes: Good communication, teamwork, and presentation skills. Attention to detail and commitment to quality. Willingness to learn and adapt quickly.
- Other Requirements: Willing to travel for testing, supplier visits, and outlet training. Flexible to work extended hours during beverage launches or testing periods.
