Job summary

A leading marine engineering firm is seeking an experienced Project Manager in Batam, Indonesia, to manage ship building and repair projects. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of project management experience, preferably in the marine sector, along with strong leadership skills and technical knowledge. Proficiency in English is required; knowledge of Bahasa Indonesia/Malay is a plus. The role involves overseeing project activities, coordinating with various teams, and ensuring a safe working environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in project management in ship repair or newbuilding or conversion.
  • Sound knowledge of technical terminology used in marine environments.
  • Working experience in costing, budget, planning, forecasting, scheduling, and reporting.

  • Liaise with vendors and coordinate with commissioning teams.

Job description
Task
  • Manage the ship building/ repair/ stacking/ lap up activities for assigned projects.
  • Monitor & manage the activities of the project managers/assigned projects
  • Monitor & liaise with various vendors for equipment & coordinate with commissioning teams
Responsibilities
  • For managing all activities and progress related to the projects assigned.
  • Read, understand & interpret the contract, technical specifications and drawings of the projects assigned.
  • Monitor the progress of all projects under his responsibility on daily/weekly basis as applicable.
  • Liaise with the trade managers/sub-con reps effectively to coordinate & achieve the project schedule effectively.
  • Monitor closely the commercial aspects of all projects under him to ensure that the budgeted costs are maintained at all times
  • Coordinate & liaise with the Owner reps, vendors & Class for smooth completion of equipment & system commissioning.
  • Coordinate weekly production review meeting through the respective trade managers along with the Owner’s reps to bring out the pending issues for resolving amicably when needed.
  • Ensure safe working environment on all projects assigned.
  • Provide coverage for the Shipbuilding Manager during periods of absence, overseeing daily operations and ensuring project progress is maintained
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in project management in ship repair or newbuilding or conversion.
  • Diploma/Degree in Naval Arch. or Marine Engineering or Equivalent.
  • Good spoken & written English and knowledge on Bahasa Indonesia/Malay is preferable.
  • Computer literate in word, excel, project & Auto Cad.
  • Sound knowledge of technical terminology particularly that used in a marine environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills & leadership skill.
  • Working experience in costing, budget, work break down structure, planning, forecasting, scheduling, progress management, reporting, etc.
