Job description

Organizational context: UNDP Indonesia operates within a middle-income country context, focusing on Human Development, Nature/Climate/Resilience, and Economic/Digital Transformation. With 70% of its economy tied to natural resources, the linkage between nature, climate, jobs, and economic empowerment is critical. UNDP Indonesia drives a strategic portfolio to transform commodity systems and sustainable land use through high-impact partnerships and innovative blended finance, recognizing the pivotal role of the private sector.

Job purpose: The Private Sector Engagement Analyst will lead and coordinate UNDP Indonesia's engagement with the private sector to advance sustainable, inclusive, and market-oriented commodity development, particularly for land- and marine-based commodities. This role involves identifying, developing, and operationalizing strategic partnerships with various market actors to translate private sector engagement into tangible investments, market opportunities, sustainable sourcing arrangements, and improved outcomes for producers and landscapes. The position contributes to UNDP Indonesia's sustainable commodity portfolio, connecting project-level interventions with broader market transformation opportunities across national, landscape, and international levels.

Responsibilities: The Private Sector Engagement Analyst is responsible for strengthening UNDP Indonesia's strategic positioning with private sector actors and building a pipeline of actionable partnerships. This includes developing an overview of relevant private sector actors, identifying and prioritizing partners, and maintaining relationships at national and international levels to mobilize expertise, innovation, and investment. The role involves facilitating dialogues, forums, and outreach to connect stakeholders and positioning UNDP as a credible partner. Additionally, the analyst will translate identified opportunities into concrete partnership concepts, action plans, and investment cases, supporting market readiness for producers and mobilizing private capital. Responsibilities also include providing technical coordination for interventions related to sustainable trade, market access, and responsible sourcing, as well as facilitating policy dialogue and analysis on regulatory requirements affecting sustainable commodity production and trade. The role requires contributing to UNDP Indonesia's overall strategy, identifying opportunities to leverage public funding for private capital mobilization, and facilitating knowledge exchange across relevant initiatives.

Education: An advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in Business Administration, Commerce, International Trade, Marketing, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be considered.

Work experience: Requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience (with a Master's degree) or 4 years (with a Bachelor's degree) in areas such as private sector engagement, partnership development, sustainable commodity value chains, sustainable trade, market development, investment, or commercial/blended finance.

Skills: Demonstrated experience in private sector engagement, particularly related to sustainable commodities, natural resource management, or sustainable development. Experience engaging with companies, industry associations, financial institutions, investors, buyers, and producer organizations. Proven ability in investment facilitation, mobilizing private capital, and developing market-based solutions. Familiarity with sustainable trade, market access, responsible sourcing, and international sustainability standards. Experience in managing development programmes and facilitating multi-stakeholder processes. Fluency in English and Indonesian is required.
