About the Role

We are looking for a highly skilled and curious Polymer Chemistry and Materials Science Specialist to join our R&D team at CHAMPOIL Indonesia. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in polymer formulation, lubricant additives, and materials evaluation, who thrives in a problem-solving environment and is passionate about improving product performance while optimising cost-efficiency.

What You'll Be Doing

Identifying and evaluating cost-efficient additive alternatives without compromising product performance

Conducting benchmarking tests, comparative analysis of technical data sheets (TDS), and verifying certification credentials (ISO, REACH, RoHS) of potential suppliers

Performing root cause analysis on formulation issues such as grease hardening, phase separation, or instability during storage

Investigating polymer backbone interactions with base oil and additives, including thermal stability and reversibility under low-temperature conditions

Leading lab-scale synthesis, microstructural analysis, and viscoelastic testing (e.g., rheometry) for grease and lubricant systems

Collaborating with Product Development and QA teams to ensure consistency and repeatability across production batches

Staying updated with global R&D trends in polymer chemistry, additive technology, and emerging material sciences relevant to lubricants

Providing technical documentation, internal knowledge sharing, and support to customers and sales teams as needed

What We're Looking For

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Polymer Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field

Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in grease, lubricant, or polymer formulation R&D, preferably in manufacturing or specialty chemicals

Proven experience in additive evaluation, cost-performance analysis, and supplier technical assessment

Strong grasp of analytical and characterization tools such as FTIR, GC-MS, DSC/TGA, rheometry, and optical microscopy

Solid knowledge of thickener systems (e.g., lithium complex, calcium sulfonate) and base oil interaction with additives

Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot formulation issues based on scientific principles and lab data

Critical thinking, structured problem-solving, and strong documentation/reporting skills

Effective communicator who can work closely with internal teams and external partners
