Job description

Plant Manager - Electronics (Batam, Open for Expats)

This position is responsible for driving the successful launch and long-term operational performance of a new manufacturing site in Batam. The role requires hands-on leadership during the start-up phase covering infrastructure, team set-up, and system implementation, and then evolving into full accountability for daily operations.

The client is a newly setup site from a global electronics brand.

Description

  • Lead all site readiness activities from construction handover to operational go-live
  • Design and deploy scalable production systems and workflows
  • Build local sourcing capability and integrate into broader supply networks
  • Recruit, onboard, and develop high-performing teams aligned with company culture
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure utilities, machinery, and tools are commissioned as planned
  • Set the foundation for compliance and safety as non-negotiable priorities
  • Secure relevant certifications and manage external audits
  • Serve as the key point of contact for leadership updates, risk mitigation, and launch milestones

Phase 2 - Operational Leadership:

  • Deliver output targets while tightly managing cost, quality, and service metrics
  • Own the operational calendar including daily reviews, monthly results, and quarterly forecasting
  • Advance Lean and digital manufacturing programs in partnership with global teams
  • Resolve delivery challenges and drive root cause resolution using structured methods
  • Monitor plant performance indicators and lead corrective actions where needed
  • Oversee new product introductions, ensuring smooth integration into production
  • Maintain ownership of quality standards and performance benchmarks
  • Embed a culture of daily improvement through structured Gemba walks and team engagement
  • Lead cross-functional alignment to meet capacity, workforce, and planning requirements
  • Enforce policy adherence and handle sensitive workforce matters professionally
  • Support health & safety ownership across the organization with proactive risk controls
  • Lead talent reviews, performance assessments, and development planning
  • Contribute to the long-term business plan, budget process, and strategic reviews
  • Collaborate closely with other leaders across regions to share best practices
  • Adapt to a flexible shift structure and travel needs
  • Additional responsibilities as required

Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical discipline
  • At least 8 years in a manufacturing leadership role, ideally with site-level responsibility
  • Experience managing electronics site
  • Direct experience leading new site launches or major facility expansions
  • Strong people management skills with a track record of building and inspiring teams
  • Demonstrated ability to turn strategic goals into tactical execution at speed
  • Sharp analytical thinking and solid judgment under pressure
  • Thorough understanding of operational risk, safety, and compliance
  • Comfortable with digital tools and enterprise-level production systems
  • Clear communicator with an inclusive leadership style
