This project supports Indonesia in accelerating the legal recognition and designation of Customary (Adat) Forests as part of its Social Forestry framework by operationalizing the newly established national Task Force under the Ministry of Forestry. It strengthens legal, institutional, and data systems needed to recognize Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs), improves coordination across government and civil society, and builds capacity for conflict mediation, mapping, and policy implementation. The project also advances Indonesia's international commitments on forest tenure rights through strategic advocacy toward COP30, while piloting provincial action plans to model scalable approaches.
