Job description

B.L. Harbert International is seeking a Mechanical Quality Control Engineer for a construction project in Medan, Indonesia. The successful candidate will join the Quality Control Team and report to the Quality Control Manager. Responsibilities include overseeing mechanical installations—such as plumbing, HVAC, civil utilities, fuel distribution systems, and fire sprinkler systems—to ensure compliance with project specifications, applicable U.S. mechanical codes, and industry best practices. The role will also involve coordinating with internal teams, subcontractors, and the client to uphold quality at every stage of the project.

Responsibilities:

  1. Review submittals to confirm that proposed materials and methods comply with project requirements and specifications.
  2. Inspect and verify incoming mechanical materials to ensure deliveries match approved submittals and meet all project specifications.
  3. Oversee proper storage and handling of materials to maintain quality and prevent damage or deterioration of mechanical components.
  4. Prepare and lead preparatory meetings to clarify inspection plans, roles, and expectations before work begins.
  5. Apply the 3-Phase Inspection Process (preparatory, initial, and follow-up) for each definable feature of work.
  6. Perform initial and follow-up inspections of plumbing, HVAC installations, civil utilities, fuel distribution systems and fire sprinkler systems, documenting findings to ensure ongoing compliance.
  7. Conduct plumbing and HVAC tests - such as pressure, leakage, functional- and prepare the associated reports and documentation.
  8. Identify and document non-compliances (NCRs), coordinating corrective actions with relevant teams or subcontractors.
  9. Prepare daily reports, detailing inspection results, progress updates, and key observations.
  10. Maintain accurate records of all material inspections and test results for audits and reviews.
  11. Conduct punch-list Inspections, ensuring all mechanical items are completed to the highest standards.
  12. Contribute to as-built documentation for mechanical systems, incorporating any field modifications or changes.
  13. Support final turnover documentation by compiling test reports, inspection records, and manufacturers’ certifications.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
  2. 8+ years of experience in construction quality control.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. High level of organization.
  2. Strong communication skills and team-oriented approach.

Preferences:

  1. Familiarity with ASTM, ASHRAE, IPC, IMC and NFPA codes and standards.
