Job description

Monroe Consulting Group is currently hiring on behalf of our client, an international data center company looking to onboard a Mechanical Engineer Lead with expertise in mechanical engineer design for data center building. This job is based in Jakarta, Indonesia, and requires high mobility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the conceptual design of new sites and collaborate with internal and external teams to optimize existing facilities.
  • Prepare preliminary technical specifications, coordinate with commercial teams to develop initial budgets, and compile prospectus documents for sales support.
  • Provide input on site selection, conduct technical due diligence, and advise on local permitting processes.
  • Appoint, brief, and oversee external consultants through all design stages-from TDD, concept, and master planning to construction documentation.
  • Ensure all designs meet project briefs, business objectives, technical specifications, and local statutory requirements.
  • Guide contractors to maintain high construction quality standards.
  • Assist project managers during the construction phase with required technical information.
  • Coordinate with commissioning agents, contractors, and operations teams to execute startup and commissioning, including Integrated System Testing (IST).
  • Review commissioning scripts, address critical punch-list items, and oversee QA/QC closure activities.
  • Develop and maintain design standards, prototypes, and template specifications for site design.
  • Capture lessons learned and integrate feedback into new projects to enhance design standards.
  • Review consultant design documentation, perform independent technical and cost assessments, and participate in consultant/vendor shortlisting and evaluations.
  • Maintain strategic vendor relationships for long-term collaboration.
  • Support sales teams with technical input for customer inquiries.
  • Liaise with clients, government authorities, and relevant third parties to secure design approvals.



Qualifications & Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in mechanical engineering within the construction industry, with at least 3 years in data center design.
  • In-depth knowledge of MVAC, fire detection/suppression, plumbing, drainage, and fuel systems.
  • Proven local project experience in Indonesia/Jakarta with strong familiarity with local standards, regulations, and Uptime Tier requirements.
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Basic understanding of electrical, controls, and CSA disciplines.
  • Strong communication skills in English and Bahasa Indonesia.
  • Demonstrated stakeholder management and project leadership skills.
  • Experience working with international design consultants and solid networks within the local DC ecosystem.
  • Uptime Accredited Tier Designer certification or previous TCCF project experience.
  • Familiarity with the latest data center design trends and industry developments.
  • Experience in construction project management.
  • English is a must
