Job summary

Filtrona Manufacturing Indonesia is seeking a mechanical design engineer to develop expertise in manufacturing equipment and engineering standards across sites. You will create 2D drawings and 3D CAD models for machine parts and assemblies, and modify designs to improve performance, reliability and efficiency.

Collaboration with Global and site engineers is essential to deliver cross-site improvements and digitalization initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline.
• 2–5 years of relevant experience in mechanical design, manufacturing engineering, machine building, equipment engineering or a related field.
• Experience using 2D and 3D CAD design software.
• Good understanding of mechanical engineering principles, machine components, materials, tolerances and manufacturing processes.
• Ability to read, interpret and develop engineering drawings.
• Exposure to machining, fabrication, machine assembly or manufacturing equipment would be advantageous.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a practical, hands-on approach.
• Ability and willingness to learn Filtrona’s manufacturing technologies and develop deeper machine design capability.
• Good communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across functions, sites and cultures.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, data analysis tools and SAP.

Responsibilities

• Develop expertise in manufacturing equipment, technologies and engineering standards used across Filtrona operations.
• Develop 2D engineering drawings and 3D CAD models for machine parts, components and mechanical assemblies.
• Support the design and modification of machine parts and assemblies to improve equipment performance, reliability, maintainability and operational efficiency.
• Translate operational requirements, existing components, sketches and technical concepts into accurate engineering drawings and designs.
• Support reverse engineering of existing machine parts and components where drawings or specifications are unavailable.
• Work closely with Global Engineering and site Engineering teams on machine modification and capability enhancement projects.
• Support equipment performance, reliability and maintenance improvement initiatives.
• Participate in machine capability enhancement and operational efficiency projects.
• Assist in troubleshooting complex manufacturing and equipment-related issues and develop mechanical design solutions where appropriate.
• Support equipment commissioning, validation, trials and startup activities following machine modifications or engineering changes.
• Prepare and maintain engineering drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), specifications and other relevant technical documentation.
• Contribute to automation and digitalization initiatives where applicable.
• Support implementation of engineering standards, design practices and best practices across sites.
• Facilitate technical knowledge sharing and capability transfer between Global Engineering and manufacturing locations.
• Participate in short-term and long-term deployment assignments to support business priorities.

Job description

The role focuses on developing strong knowledge of Filtrona’s manufacturing equipment while building mechanical design capability to support machine modifications, component improvements and engineering solutions. The incumbent will work closely with site Engineering teams and Global Engineering to design and modify machine parts and assemblies that improve equipment performance, reliability and operational efficiency.

The role will combine hands-on manufacturing exposure with mechanical design experience and provide opportunities for cross-site projects and international deployment.

Key responsibilities

What we're looking for

Mobility & Global Mindset (mandatory requirement) & Willingness to undertake international assignments

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline.

Tobacco industry background preferred.

2–5 years of relevant experience in mechanical design, manufacturing engineering, machine building, equipment engineering or a related field.
