Responsibilities

• Guide the ship using the manual steering system on the bridge.
• Maintain lookout and signal nearby ships during navigation.
• Stand watch on the steering column as directed by Captain or Watch Officer.
• On non-watch times, clean, polish wood, brass and other metal parts, and paint or lacquer the bridge and lifeboats.
• Perform splicing and cable repair on board and carry out safety duties as assigned.
