Job summary

Indonesia Defence Services is seeking a competent Project Engineer – Maritime to lead and coordinate complex maritime engineering projects, including shipbuilding, conversion, and newbuilding. You will oversee technical execution, liaise with shipyards and classifications societies, and ensure adherence to IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL and class rules.

The ideal candidate has a minimum of 2 years’ project engineer experience in shipbuilding, repair or maintenance, with strong knowledge of ship structures,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering/ Naval Architecture or Mechatronics.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant project engineer experience in shipbuilding, repair, or maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of ship structures, propulsion systems, machinery, and safety systems.
  • Proven ability to manage projects from planning to execution under tight timelines.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites, including shipyards and vessels.
  • English is a mandatory requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the technical execution of new shipbuilding, repair, conversion, and retrofit projects.
  • Supervise dry-docking operations and coordinate with shipyards, contractors, and classification societies.
  • Conduct inspections, analyze vessel conditions, and recommend engineering solutions.
  • Review and prepare technical documentation, including repair specs, drawings, and progress reports.
  • Monitor project timelines, budgets, and resource allocations.
  • Ensure full compliance with international maritime regulations (IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL) and class rules.
  • Serve as the main technical point of contact for clients, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Support procurement and evaluation of materials and equipment.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support continuous improvement of engineering processes.

Job description
