Job description

An Indonesian mining company specializing in copper and gold mining, with a long-term mine life supported by processing stockpiles, is seeking a highly motivated professional for the position of:

Manager – Water, Hydrogeology & Hydrology

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning, organizing, and managing water resources across the site, developing projects for water resilience and sustainability, in line with international standards, and providing technical support for liaising with government on groundwater, effluent, dam safety, and water management, supporting departments such as Process Plant, Mining, Environmental, Facilities & Services, and Power.
  • Leading initiatives in water resource development, managing environmental and social protection, and mitigating environmental risks related to water resources degradation.
  • Ensuring good governance in mine water management, complying with environmental standards KEPMEN LH No. 202/2004 and dam safety KEPMEN PUPR No. 27/PRT/M/2015.
  • Advising on corporate strategies for sustainable freshwater and process water use, coordinating with various departments for optimal water management.
  • Collaborating with government, consultants, and independent parties on water resource projects, research, licensing, and sustainability efforts.
  • Analyzing data to support strategic decisions, managing water demand, and conducting feasibility studies for future projects.
  • Assessing water resource schemes and drought management impacts, planning and managing water quality and quantity across all uses.
  • Managing water supply and risks to ensure sufficient quality and quantity, planning environmentally conscious resource management methods.
  • Leading initiatives for alternative water resources, conducting hydrological surveys, and developing water resource strategies.
  • Participating in ESG management related to water and wastewater, developing technical projects, and conducting dam safety audits.
  • Providing technical services, managing contracts and contractors, and promoting water conservation practices aligned with company values.
  • Proposing budgets, reviewing expenditures, and assisting in procurement processes to optimize costs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Required skills and experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in geological engineering, civil, or earth sciences.
    • Minimum 20 years of professional experience in water resources management within the mining industry, including 8 years in managerial roles.
    • Preferably experienced as an Advisor, Superintendent, or Senior Engineer in Hydrology, Hydrogeology, and Compliance.
    • Strong knowledge of water resource management, geological sciences, hydrological concepts, and water balance analysis in mining.
    • Understanding of water regulation, groundwater, effluent, dams, and watershed management.
    • Experience with Environmental Management Systems.
    • Possession of an operational inspector certificate or equivalent recognized by KaIT.
