Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide end-to-end legal support for nickel and other metal trading transactions, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating sales and purchase agreements, offtake agreements, and related documentation.
- Advise on Incoterms, risk allocation, liability, payment terms, and shipping clauses across international transactions.
- Work closely with traders, finance, operations, and compliance teams to mitigate risks and ensure legal integrity of trading activities.
- Support legal due diligence, KYC, and counterparty risk assessments in alignment with international trade practices.
- Monitor relevant international laws and regulatory frameworks affecting metal and commodity trading, including sanctions, export control, and anti-bribery laws.
- Liaise with external counsel and regulatory authorities as needed to manage cross-border legal matters.
- Assist in developing and updating contract templates, negotiation playbooks, and legal policies to support efficient deal execution.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support corporate and commercial matters beyond trading, where needed.
The Successful Applicant
Requirements:
- Minimum 10 years of post-qualification experience, ideally with a mix of top-tier law firm training and in-house legal experience in commodities or international trade.
- Strong exposure to trading and commodities contracts, particularly within the nickel or base metals sector.
- Solid understanding of Incoterms, shipping, and logistics-related legal implications.
- Proven track record in drafting, negotiating, and closing commercial and transactional agreements under tight timelines.
- Business-fluent in English with excellent legal writing and negotiation skills.
- Pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently and cross-functionally.
- Comfortable working in a lean legal team, directly reporting to the Head of Legal, with no direct reports.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Legal degree from a reputable university, with bar admission in Indonesia or another relevant jurisdiction.
- Experience with international clients, partners, or trading houses.
- Familiarity with compliance, ESG, or mining-related regulatory requirements is a plus.
