Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic legal support on a wide range of matters related to marine operations, insurance coverage, and jetty infrastructure, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and industry standards.
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, operational contracts, and legal documents critical to the company's trading and infrastructure activities.
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the company's regulatory compliance framework, including obtaining and maintaining permits, monitoring ethical standards, and upholding corporate governance policies.
- Assess and monitor legal and regulatory risks associated with bilateral trade dynamics, international sanctions, antitrust regulations, and evolving geopolitical factors impacting trade routes.
- Act as the primary liaison between internal stakeholders and external legal counsel, ensuring timely legal advice, alignment on business objectives, and effective risk mitigation.
- Develop and implement internal compliance policies, whistleblower protocols, and regulatory reporting systems in line with regional and global standards.
- Provide legal support during corporate transitions, reorganizations, and structural changes, ensuring legal continuity and documentation integrity.
- Report directly to both local executive management and regional leadership, providing regular legal insights, risk assessments, and compliance updates to support strategic decision-making.
The Successful Applicant
Candidate Requirements
- A minimum of 7 years of post-qualification legal experience (PQE), ideally gained from a combination of reputable law firms and in-house legal roles.
- Solid track record in trading, shipping, or maritime law, with demonstrable understanding of the regulatory landscape surrounding international logistics and port operations.
- Strong experience handling compliance matters, including regulatory filings, corporate ethics, and policy development within complex operational environments.
- Excellent command of English, both written and spoken, with the ability to draft legal documentation and communicate effectively across jurisdictions.
- Agile, adaptable, and able to work independently while also collaborating with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, evolving business setting.
- Willingness to work from the office on a full-time basis, with flexibility to travel domestically and internationally based on business needs.
- Experience supporting companies through change management, organizational transitions, or business restructuring is highly preferred.
