Vandil in Jakarta is seeking a Junior Software Engineer for a part-time hybrid role. You will contribute to building the infrastructure that powers our AI-native law firm, working across the full stack from client portal to internal tooling, with increasing ownership as you learn.
Ideal candidates have up to 2 years of software development experience, familiarity with Angular or Firebase, and a solid engineering foundation.
Today Vandil is an AI-native law firm, built from the ground up to dominate the fastest-growing legal market: AI and privacy regulation.
We're not just another law firm bolting on AI tools. We're an AI company that also practices law. Our agents handle 80%+ of the work across any given matter, and our Vandil Intelligence Platform powers everything from client intake to specialised document drafting. The result? A team of 10 lawyers operating like 50 — delivering faster, sharper, and more affordable legal services than traditional firms ever could.
From our client portal to our predictive regulatory intelligence, we're building an entirely new legal operating system — one that helps organisations confidently adopt the latest technology and stay ahead of regulators, not react to them.
At Vandil, we hire people who are naturally curious — the kind of people who don't wait to be told what to learn. We believe the future of legal technology will be built by people who go deep, not just broad. Whether that means pursuing further study in law, computer science, or both, we actively encourage our team to push the boundaries of what they know. If you're someone who reads the latest regulatory developments for fun, tinkers with new models on weekends, or can't stop asking \"what if?\" — you'll feel at home here.
We ship fast, we think big, and we're building something that hasn't existed before. If you're ready to help define the future of law — not just participate in it — we'd love to hear from you.
As a Junior Software Engineer at Vandil, you'll contribute to building the infrastructure that powers our AI-native law firm. From our client portal to the Vandil Intelligence Platform — the system that enables our AI agents to handle 80%+ of legal work — you'll help design and ship technology that makes a small team operate like one many times its size.
This role is ideal for someone early in their career who's eager to learn fast and make a real impact. You'll work across the full stack, take on meaningful tasks with increasing ownership, and collaborate closely with our legal and engineering teams to build products that genuinely change how legal services are delivered.
This is a part-time hybrid role based in Jakarta. You'll be expected to work from our Jakarta office part of the week, with flexibility to work remotely on other days. We move fast and trust our team to do their best work — but we value strong async communication and a bias toward shipping.
You might start the morning reviewing a pull request from a teammate, then pick up a feature ticket for the client portal — say, helping build a real-time regulatory alert component that surfaces relevant changes to a client's compliance posture. After lunch, you're pairing with a senior engineer or one of our lawyers to understand how a new AI agent workflow should behave, translating legal logic into clean, reliable code. Later in the afternoon, you're investigating a bug in our document generation pipeline, and by end of day you're pushing a fix. No two days look the same, but every day you're learning and building something that matters.
You have up to 2 years of professional or project-based software engineering experience — whether through internships, freelance work, open-source contributions, or university projects. You're comfortable working across the full stack and excited to develop stronger opinions about architecture over time.
Our stack is built on Angular and Firebase, so familiarity with either is a plus. That said, we care more about engineering fundamentals and your ability to learn fast than checking every box.
You communicate clearly, both in code and in conversation. You're the kind of engineer who asks \"why are we building this?\" before \"how should we build this?\" You're energised by ambiguity and see early-stage chaos as an opportunity, not a blocker.
We expect our engineers to use AI tools heavily in their day-to-day workflows — not as a novelty, but as a core part of how you write, review, and ship code. If you're already using tools like Claude, Copilot, or Cursor to move faster, you'll fit right in.
Beyond the technical, you have a genuine interest in AI, law, or both. You don't need to be a legal expert — but you're curious enough to learn how regulation works and why it matters. Bonus points if you've tinkered with AI agent systems, legal tech products, or developer platforms before.
Vandil is an equal opportunity employer. We believe that building the future of legal technology requires diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences. We welcome and encourage applications from everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. If you need any accommodations during the application or interview process, please let us know — we're happy to help.
