This is an exciting, entry-level opportunity for a recent graduate to contribute to the design of complex mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for a variety of building projects under the mentorship of senior engineers.
Overview
Entry-level role supporting MEP design and design review for utility tunnel projects, with a focus on integration of mechanical, electrical, public health, and low current systems. Work under supervision to ensure design intent, compliance, and maintainability.
Responsibilities
- Design & Design Review Support: Assist senior engineers in the design and synchronization of MEP systems within Multi-Utility Tunnels, including:
- Mechanical: Ventilation systems (natural and forced), cooling systems for heat dissipation.
- Electrical: Primary and backup power distribution, lighting systems (including contingencies), cable management, and grounding.
- Public Health: Drainage, dewatering, and leak detection systems.
- Low Current Systems: SCADA, fire detection and alarm systems, gas monitoring, CCTV, access control, and communication systems.
- Support the integration of utility services (e.g., fiber optic cables, high-voltage power lines, water mains, gas pipes) within the MUT, ensuring proper segregation and support.
- Review design drawings and technical submittals for compliance with design intent and specifications.
- Operation & Maintenance (O&M) Focus: Leverage O&M experience to inform design decisions, ensuring systems are accessible, maintainable, and reliable.
- Contribute to the development of detailed O&M Manuals and emergency procedures for clients.
- Assist in designing layouts that facilitate easy access for maintenance vehicles and personnel.
- Understand and design for the lifecycle cost of MEP systems within the tunnel.
- Work closely with civil, structural, and road engineers to ensure the MEP systems are fully integrated into the overall tunnel and road design.
- Use BIM software (e.g., Revit, Navisworks) to perform 3D coordination and clash detection, resolving spatial conflicts between utilities, structural elements, and MEP services before construction.
- Compliance & Indonesian Standards: Ensure all designs and activities comply with relevant Indonesian National Standards (SNI), international codes (e.g., NFPA, IEC), and local government regulations.
- Stay updated on the latest technologies and best practices in utility tunnel MEP systems.
- Familiar with AHSP developed by BM or another related agency.
- Others: Visiting sites (if needed) to gather information and determine limitations and feasibility of designs. Communicate potential design issues to engineers and the Team Leader/Project Manager.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering. A Master’s would be advantageous.
Skills
- Practical experience in the operation, maintenance, or facility management of utility tunnels or similar underground infrastructure. This is a key differentiator for this role.
- Familiarity with SCADA and building management systems (BMS) for remote monitoring.
- Understanding of fire and life safety codes specific to enclosed underground spaces.
- Proficiency in MS Office business suites including Excel & MS Project, CAD software, BIM, and other engineering specialized software packages.
Experience
- At least 2 to 5 years of relevant experience is required.
- Experience in an engineering consultant firm, and a contractor is required.
- Experience abroad is a strong advantage.
Languages
Bahasa Indonesia and English: reading, writing, and speaking required.
Other Requirements
- Team-oriented and client-oriented with a clear, positive and accountable attitude.
- Flexibility to handle tight deadlines, manage priorities, and travel domestically and within SEA.
- Methodical with attention to detail while staying open and positive.
Compensation
