Job description
Overview

Remote

GitLab is an open-core software company that develops the most comprehensive AI-powered DevSecOps Platform, used by more than 100,000 organizations. Our mission is to enable everyone to contribute to and co-create the software that powers our world. When everyone can contribute, consumers become contributors, significantly accelerating human progress. Our platform unites teams and organizations, breaking down barriers and redefining what\'s possible in software development. Thanks to products like Duo Enterprise and Duo Agent Platform, customers get AI benefits at every stage of the SDLC.

The same principles built into our products are reflected in how our team works: we embrace AI as a core productivity multiplier, with all team members expected to incorporate AI into their daily workflows to drive efficiency, innovation, and impact. GitLab is where careers accelerate, innovation flourishes, and every voice is valued. Our high-performance culture is driven by our values and continuous knowledge exchange, enabling our team members to reach their full potential while collaborating with industry leaders to solve complex problems. Co-create the future with us as we build technology that transforms how the world develops software.

We work in smaller sub-teams of 2-5 engineers focusing on a single project for 1-3 months. Every month one engineer is assigned to the quality rotation working on performance, monitoring, security vulnerabilities, and maintenance issues. We meet once a week; project teams can have their own calls, but we mostly work asynchronously. We mostly work with Vue.js and Apollo Client moving GitLab into the SPA-like experience.

What you’ll do
  • Collaborate closely with Product and Design counterparts to finalize the requirements and break down projects into smaller iterations. Then work with other engineers to plan and execute the work.
  • Work with engineers across Plan Stage. We have multiple Senior, Staff and Principal frontend engineers, including Vue core members.
  • Iterate and ship value to customers quickly. Create Proof of Concepts for more complex work. Ensure quality by writing extensive tests and rolling out changes behind feature flags.
  • Craft code that meets our standards for style, maintainability, and best practices for a high-scale web environment.
  • Support other frontend engineers and advocate for quality during code-reviews.
  • Participate in the Quality Rotation.
  • Nurture our open-source community by selecting and preparing issues for contributors, helping to organize hackathons, and reviewing contributions.
  • Suggest and execute process improvements in monthly retrospectives.
What you’ll bring
  • Professional experience with Vue.js (2.x), Apollo Client, and VueApollo
  • Professional experience with building full-stack web apps with GraphQL
  • Experience with writing automated tests with Jest
  • Demonstrated capacity to clearly and concisely communicate about complex technical, architectural, and/or organizational problems and propose thorough iterative solutions
  • Experience with performance and optimization problems and a demonstrated ability to diagnose and prevent these problems
  • Comfort working in a highly agile, intensely iterative software development process
  • Effective communication skills: Regularly achieve consensus with peers, and clear status updates
  • Some experience with backend technologies, especially Ruby on Rails is a plus

Please note that we welcome interest from candidates with varying levels of experience; many successful candidates do not meet every single requirement. If you\'re excited about this role, please apply and allow our recruiters to assess your application.
