Job summary

Larsen & Toubro is seeking a Design Engineer - MEP (HVAC) to support HVAC design and documentation activities for data centres and similar facilities. You will work on heat loads, chilled water schemes, duct layouts, pump head and external static pressure calculations, and produce design drawings and BOQs.

Collaboration with BIM teams and consultants is essential. The role requires 3–6 years of HVAC design experience, proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit, and strong English alongside local language

Qualifications

• Bachelor or higher in Mechanical Engineering with HVAC design experience.
• 3–6 years of experience in HVAC design and project coordination.
• Knowledge of heat load calculations and duct/pipe sizing for data centres.

Responsibilities

• Design HVAC systems for data centres in compliance with relevant standards.
• Prepare heat load calculations, chilled water schemes, and duct layouts.
• Perform pump head and external static pressure calculations; create drawings and BOQs.
• Coordinate with BIM and drafting teams to resolve layout clashes.
• Review vendor drawings and technical datasheets for equipment like chillers, pumps, cooling towers.

SECTION II: ROLE SUMMARY (Purpose of the Role)

To support HVAC design and documentation activities ensuring system performance and coordination across services.

SECTION III: KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Data Centre specific HVAC System design in compliance with UPTIME/ TIA / ASHRAE TC 9.9 requirements.
• Prepares heat load calculations, Chilled Water schemes and duct layout preparation.
• Pump head calculation and External Static Pressure calculation.
• Prepare design drawings and BOQs as per project standards.
• Work with BIM and architectural teams to resolve layout clashes.

SECTION IV: KEY INTERACTIONS

• Internal Stakeholder Purpose of Interaction: Primarily working as per HVAC Lead Engineer instructions
• BIM/ Drafting team inputs and drive for the drawing deliverable Architecture, Structure, Electrical, FPS and PHE
• External Stakeholder Purpose of Interaction: Consultants, Vendors (as applicable)

SECTION V: KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

• Minimum Qualifications B.E./B.Tech. (Mechanical) with 3-6 years’ experience in HVAC design.
• Language Skills Proficient in English and local language for on-site coordination.
• Years of Experience 3-6 years.
• Nature of Ex. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and MS Office.

SECTION VI: TECHNICAL & LEADERSHIP / BEHAVIORAL SKILLS REQUIRED TO EXECUTE THE ROLES

• Technical Skills Perform as HVAC Systems Designer, Expertise with the Design of IT Parks, Tall Buildings, DataCentre, Hospitals & Commercial Buildings design based on Globally / Nationally accepted Codes and Standards.
• Should have worked on Heat Load calculation through HAP Software & Strong knowledge on Manual Heat load calculation & fundamentals of Psychometrics.
• Should have in depth knowledge of Chilled water system (Air cooled and Water-cooled system), VRF System, DX System, Precision AHU system, Thermal Energy storage system, Basement Ventilation System etc.
• Determines the size of water and chilled water piping, preparation of piping layout and perform pump head calculations for the chilled water piping.
• Establish Systems for Bill of Materials / Quantity Take Off for Tender projects.
• Perform all MEP design activities and coordinate with Architect, Structure, ELV systems, Public Heath, Piping, Fire Fighting and HVAC Engineering to ensure quality compliance in accordance with client & owner expectations in most economical manner.
• Responsible for review and check the vendor drawings & technical datasheet for various equipment’s like Chiller, Pumps, Cooling Towers etc., and further low side items like Piping, ducting, Air distribution products etc., and Subcontractor shop drawings.
