Job summary

MatchaTalent seeks a Head of Mining Operations for a demanding underground mining operation in Papua New Guinea. This senior role directs all underground mining activities, ensuring safe, efficient, and commercially viable production while maintaining regulatory compliance.

The successful candidate will lead a large multidisciplinary team, develop and execute mine plans, manage budgets, and drive continuous improvement in a remote FIFO setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related field.
• Must hold PNG Metalliferous Mine Manager's CoC or be eligible to obtain one.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership for underground mining operations, ensuring safe, productive, and efficient execution of mine development and production.
• Collaborate with Technical Services and Geology to align short-, mid-, and long-term mine plans with targets.
• Champion safety compliance with mining legislation and Mine Safety Management System.
• Manage budgets, costs, capex, and cost optimization initiatives.
• Oversee contractor performance to meet targets and safety requirements.
• Lead, mentor, and develop Mining Supervisors, Engineers, and operators.
• Monitor production, identify risks, and drive continuous improvement.
• Foster collaboration across mine operations and support functions.
