About Thryve.Earth
We are building a tech-enabled platform to seed and develop an order of magnitude more nature based carbon projects, delivering significant GHG positive outcomes and co-benefits in the long run. Our team comprises carbon specialists, scientists, product leaders, engineers, and business professionals. United by our love for nature and our commitment to learning and growth, we are venture-backed and in the process of establishing our foundational team.
Position Overview
We are seeking a GIS Specialist who can combine strong geospatial skills with a passion for nature-based solutions. In this role, you will own the GIS-related sections of Project Design Documents (PDDs) and contribute to baseline measurements, MRV (Monitoring, Reporting & Verification), eligibility checks, and implementation plans for carbon projects. You will also have the opportunity to learn and expand your skills in carbon modeling and broader NbS functions.
Key Responsibilities
1.GIS & Remote Sensing
- Develop, maintain, and analyze geospatial datasets (e.g., satellite imagery, drone data, LiDAR) to assess baseline conditions and monitor changes over time.
- Own all GIS-related sections of PDDs, including mapping, spatial analysis, and data visualization for forestry and land-use projects.
- Utilize tools like Google Earth Engine and open-source GIS platforms (e.g., QGIS, GeoServer, Leaflet, Mapbox) to automate and streamline data processing.
2.Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) & Project Development
- Contribute to baseline measurements in the field, including setting up data collection protocols and training local teams when needed.
- Assist in eligibility checks for potential carbon projects, leveraging spatial analysis and field data to confirm compliance with carbon standards.
- Support or learn about carbon modeling, MRV frameworks, and implementation plans to ensure robust NbS project development.
3.Collaboration & Training
- Work closely with cross-functional teams—R&D, product, origination—to incorporate GIS insights into broader carbon modeling and risk assessment processes.
- Train field teams and external partners on baseline measurement techniques, GIS data collection, and relevant NbS methodologies.
- Provide technical advice on remote sensing approaches and geospatial best practices to enhance project outcomes.
4.Continuous Improvement & Innovation
- Stay up to date with emerging GIS and remote sensing technologies, particularly those relevant to NbS and carbon projects.
- Seek opportunities to learn and grow in carbon credit methodologies, MRV protocols, and overall NbS project design.
- Propose innovative approaches to improve accuracy, efficiency, and scalability of data-driven environmental monitoring.
Qualifications & Skills
- 3+ years of professional experience in GIS, Remote Sensing, or related fields (e.g., environmental science, forestry).
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in GIS, Remote Sensing, Forestry, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Strong foundational skills in GIS (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS, Google Earth Engine) and remote sensing (e.g., satellite image processing, LiDAR, drone data).
- Experience applying machine learning (classification, regression) to geospatial data; advanced ML or deep learning skills (TensorFlow, PyTorch) are a plus.
- Programming skills (e.g., Python, R, JavaScript) to automate and scale GIS processes are highly valued.
- Experience or genuine interest in nature-based solutions, forestry, and carbon project development; familiarity with PDD structure is desirable.
- Comfort with—or willingness to learn—field data collection methods and baseline measurement protocols.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication abilities, with a track record of collaboration in remote or cross-functional teams.
- Hungry to learn about carbon modeling, MRV, and eligibility checks—on-the-job training will be provided.
- Familiarity with carbon development processes in Indonesia, primarily understanding of SRN, VCS
- Experience in driving implementation reforestation and forest protection projects on the ground
