Job summary

Overview

The University of Waterloo-FINCAPES Project (Flood Impacts, Carbon Pricing, and Ecosystem Sustainability) is seeking an Expert on Gender and Socio-economic Inclusivity (GESEI) to join its team in Jakarta. This role will play a central part in ensuring that gender equality and social inclusion are integrated into FINCAPES’ efforts to help Indonesia adapt to climate change, mitigate flood risk, and conserve critical ecosystems such as peatlands and mangroves. The Indonesian GESEI Expert will provide strategic guidance and technical expertise to integrate inclusivity principles across all FINCAPES activities. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting Gender-Based Analysis Plus (GBA+) on flood risks, peatland and mangrove conservation, and climate finance
  • Identifying barriers and opportunities for women’s participation and leadership in ecosystem management
  • Supporting gender-responsive applied research and capacity-building programs with Indonesian universities, NGOs, and local governments
  • Advising on communications, outreach, and policy engagement to strengthen gender-inclusive approaches
  • Contributing to project monitoring, reporting, and knowledge-sharing efforts

This position will work closely with the FINCAPES Field Director, Canadian GESEI Specialist, and project partners across Indonesia.

Key Qualifications

Required qualifications

  • A degree in Gender Studies, Sociology, Human Rights, Development, or related fields
  • At least five years of experience in capacity development and collaboration with universities, NGOs, or government agencies
  • Proven track record in advancing gender equality and inclusivity in climate, conservation, or socio-economic programs
  • Strong communication skills in Bahasa Indonesia and English, with the ability to engage stakeholders across sectors
