The Flavour Applications Technologist is a senior position to address the timeliness in providing customers with samples according to the brief. This role will work closely with the Sales Team and the Principal Flavourist in Australia.
The key responsibilities of this role include:
- Apply flavours to various bases (food, oral care, personal care) for internal and external evaluation.
- Develop high-quality applications to meet customer briefs and internal projects in a timely manner and keeping appropriate documentation.
- Develop appropriate procedures for the applications process, including process documentation and ensuring this remains current.
- Maintain application laboratory practices and maintain and operate laboratory tools and equipment.
- Provide feedback and advice to assist in flavour development.
- Participate in client presentations and visits to provide technical support to the sales team, as needed.
- To maintain confidentiality concerning projects, formulations, client, and company information.
- Carry out administrative tasks related to formulations.
- Keep updated in food ingredients and technologies.
- Scientifically sound – applying scientific rigor and innovation in solving customer needs.
- Integrity – acting authentically which means being truthful and trustworthy.
The required skills and experience:
- This is a senior position with at least 6-10 years’ experience working with flavours or essential oils in application or new product development for the food, oral care, or personal care industries.
- Minimum of a science degree or equivalent (food science or chemistry preferred).
- Proven hands-on experience with laboratory procedures and good adherence to lab safety.
- Experience or familiarity with sensory evaluation and panel testing.
- A working knowledge of NPD, formulating, and food safety practices.
- Self-motivation—the ideal client is a problem solver who is passionate about flavours with an ability to organise and manage own time and program of work to operate efficiently in a small team.
- Effective collaboration with a range of stakeholders to build trusted working relationships both internally (at Naturasa and AMOF) and externally (with customers and suppliers).
- Ability to run an applications laboratory.
- Strong written and verbal English language skills.
- Proficient computer skills – Outlook, Word, Excel and Access.
