Job description

Manages overall operations of the Health Club. Responsible for guest and employee satisfaction, as well as meeting standards and financial goals. Develops and implements marketing strategies for the fitness assessment center and health programs.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED; 3 years experience in recreation/health club operations or related professional area.

OR

• 2-year degree from an accredited university in Health Education, Physical Education, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or related major; 1 year experience in recreation/health club operations or related professional area.

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES

Managing Health Club and Operations

  • Manages day-to-day operations, ensuring quality, standards, and customer expectations are met.
  • Schedules events, programs, and activities, as well as staff work schedules.
  • Develops and implements a menu of classes and services, including special programs.
  • Sets specific goals and plans to organize and accomplish work.
  • Manages outside vendors.
  • Orders and maintains necessary supplies, ensuring staff have the required equipment, tools, and uniforms.
  • Manages pool areas, including maintenance, daily upkeep, and cleanliness.
  • Ensures all facilities are operational and in good condition.
  • Coordinates repairs and maintenance with the Engineering Department.
  • Maintains safety standards and procedures.
  • Ensures proper billing and cash handling procedures are followed.
  • Manages the operating budget and assists with major equipment purchases.
  • Provides special programming during holidays and peak times.
  • Implements marketing strategies for fitness and health programs.
  • Ensuring Exceptional Customer Service

    • Serves as a role model for appropriate behaviors.
    • Monitors service quality and customer satisfaction daily.
    • Provides above-and-beyond service to enhance customer satisfaction and retention.
    • Communicates effectively to understand guest needs and provides coaching and feedback.

    Conducting Human Resources Activities

    • Oversees HR activities within the Recreation Department.
    • Monitors employee and guest satisfaction, taking corrective actions when necessary.
    • Identifies development needs and coaches or mentors staff.
    • Hires, trains, and evaluates staff performance.
    • Coordinates training activities and fosters a respectful, cooperative team environment.
    • Communicates expectations and performance objectives clearly.
