About The Role
The Manager Mining will assist the Project Manager to coordinate all mining operations in the workplace while promoting and maintaining a healthy and safe environment for everyone at work. Reporting to the Project Manager and based on-site on a 42/21 roster, you will work collaboratively towards delivering high-quality solutions and results.
In this role, you will:
- Direct and lead mining operation activities in support of the mining project manager to ensure production is achieved in accordance with TGS, project parameters, project schedule, budget, and in compliance with the company’s project safety and environmental policy;
- Actively monitor, assess, and provide recommended management initiatives to respond to potential and actual risks;
- Ensure early advice and recommendations to the Project Manager on areas of cost or service risk and opportunity;
- Ensure that our conditions and culture motivate the performance and longevity of our employees, supporting a performance culture with role clarity, stretch targets, and accountability;
- Ensure the selection of projects that match the objectives of the Business Plan by recognizing and accounting for risks in tender and contract conditions;
- Plan, direct, monitor, and reconcile the technical aspects of mining operations including daily, short to long term (annual) plans, operational performance, blast design and sequencing, rehabilitation, drainage, and road design, to assist in achieving agreed coal production targets;
- Be familiar with the current Mine Plan and future deployment of equipment within the area of responsibility;
- Check daily production figures and address problem areas;
- Minimize coal losses and dilution when removing interburden to maximize recovery;
- Ensure ROM areas are maintained with good drainage and minimal contamination during loading;
- Analyze and review the systems, procedures, and equipment utilized within the mine and recommend improvements to enhance coal production;
- Develop standards and procedures of work that can be applied across operations;
- Support the core behaviors that will lead to success on the project;
- Maintain and facilitate clear communication with all stakeholders, including clients, customers, and suppliers, regarding operational capability, performance, and resource requirements.
About You
- Tertiary qualification (degree) in Mine Engineering or related mining discipline – essential; must have 5 years of experience as a Manager Mining with a stable employment background and a minimum of 10 years of professional experience in large open-cut coal mining operations, including at least two or three years in a production/service supervision/management role.
- Experience in mine planning, subcontract management, cost management, and staff management; comprehensive knowledge of mining equipment, financial reporting & concepts.
- Holding a POM certificate from the Mine Energy Department is desirable; knowledge of OHS&E legislative and statutory requirements.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills; proficient in coaching/mentoring and negotiation/mediation; good analytical, conflict resolution, and sound decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written, and computer literacy.
