A leading semiconductor manufacturer in Kepulauan Riau, Indonesia, is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to oversee backend process engineering and manage turnkey project transfers. The ideal candidate will have over 12 years of experience in electronics manufacturing, with proven leadership in semiconductor backend processes. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic, multicultural team.
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead backend process engineering and manage turnkey project transfers within our manufacturing operations. This role requires strong project management capabilities, deep technical knowledge of backend processes, and the ability to coordinate NPI and process improvement initiatives from concept to mass production.
The client is a leading semiconductor/electronic component manufacturing.
Description
1. New Product Introduction & Project Transfer
Lead turnkey projects from assessment and qualification through to product release.
Manage backend processes: soldering (manual & immersion), crimping, molding, potting/gel fill, plating, trim/form, reflow BGA/QFN, and package simulation.
Oversee APQP and final testing processes (electrical final testing, leakage testing, etc.)
2. Machine & Process Capability
Identify, acquire, qualify, and commission production equipment; provide buy-off recommendations.
Plan and optimize machine capacity, production layout, and floor plans.
Ensure compliance with ESD standards across all processes.
3. Mass Production Handover
Oversee transition from NPI to mass production, including manpower planning, quality requirements, and capacity validation.
Manage production engineering for qualified materials/products.
Drive process improvements to enhance yield, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
4. Cross-functional Collaboration
Work closely with PD, PE, PrE, QA, Logistics, and external vendors.
Provide technical leadership to engineering teams for temperature sensor and system product lines.
Support front-end process transitions from Berlin to Batam.
5. Compliance, Safety & Continuous Improvement
Ensure compliance with automotive quality standards (IATF16949), APQP, and audit requirements.
Promote safe work practices and conduct regular safety audits.
Apply Lean Six Sigma tools for continuous improvement (5-Why, cause-effect, FMEA, SPC, MSA, etc.).
Profile
Degree/Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or related Engineering discipline.
12+ years in electronics/semiconductor manufacturing, with 2+ years in leadership roles.
Proven experience in semiconductor backend processes and automotive industry standards (soldering, molding)
Stong mechanical / ESD background.
Experiences in reviewing drawing
Strong APQP, FMEA, PPAP, SPC, and MSA knowledge.
Demonstrated success in turnkey project management and project transfer.
Proficiency in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and problem-solving tools.
Experiences in machine buy-off
Nice to have:
Wire bonding (aluminum) and die attach process knowledge.
Experience with plating, package simulation, and magnetic sensors.
Familiarity with OSAT operations for global semiconductor clients.
Programming/scripting knowledge (C++, Python).
