Role Description
We are seeking an Engineering Manager to join our team in Jakarta, Indonesia. This is a full-time, on-site role responsible for overseeing the day-to-day work of our engineering team within a regulated fintech environment. You will provide technical leadership, manage software development projects, and ensure the successful integration of payment, lending, and banking systems. As an Engineering Manager, you will play a key role in driving technology innovation while maintaining the security, compliance, and reliability standards required of a financial services platform.
Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement, with particular attention to the rigor required when building financial products.
- Project Management: Plan, prioritize, and manage engineering projects from conception to completion, ensuring they meet technical specifications, deadlines, budget constraints, and regulatory requirements.
- Technical Oversight: Architect and design technical solutions for payments, transfers, lending, and savings products that are scalable, secure, and compliant with financial industry standards (e.g., PCI-DSS, ISO 27001, local OJK/Bank Indonesia regulations). Participate in code reviews with an emphasis on security, data integrity, and transaction accuracy.
- Payment Systems Integration: Oversee integration with third-party payment gateways, banking partners, remittance networks, and core banking or ledger systems, ensuring reliable, low-latency, and auditable transaction flows.
- Risk & Compliance Awareness: Work with compliance, risk, and security teams to ensure engineering practices align with fintech regulatory requirements (AML/KYC, data privacy, fraud prevention) across the markets we operate in.
- Process Improvement: Develop and implement engineering processes and best practices — including audit trails, transaction monitoring, and incident response — to enhance efficiency, security, and quality.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product, compliance, risk, and business teams, to align engineering efforts with financial business objectives and customer needs.
- Resource Management: Allocate resources effectively to meet project demands and manage budgets.
- Performance Monitoring: Track and report on project progress, system uptime, and transaction reliability, addressing issues that arise.
- Stakeholder Communication: Maintain clear communication with stakeholders, including regulators or compliance partners where relevant, on project status and concerns.
- Technology Evaluation: Stay current with emerging fintech technologies and trends (e.g., open banking, digital wallets, blockchain-based remittance), evaluating their potential impact on our products.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; Master's preferred.
- Experience: 5–7 years of overall engineering experience, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership or Engineering Manager role, with direct experience in fintech, digital banking, payments, or remittance platforms and a focus on backend development and infrastructure.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles.
- Expertise in one or more programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, TypeScript, Golang).
- Proficient in building scalable, secure, maintainable backend systems for financial transactions, payment processing, or lending platforms.
- Hands-on experience with payment gateway integrations, core banking systems, ledger/double-entry accounting systems, or transaction reconciliation.
- Familiarity with fintech security and compliance standards (PCI-DSS, encryption/tokenization of sensitive financial data, fraud detection systems).
- Experience working with regulatory requirements in financial services (AML/KYC, data protection regulations relevant to Indonesia and Southeast Asia a plus).
- Project Management: Excellent skills in managing complex projects within time, budget, and regulatory constraints.
- Leadership: Experience leading and mentoring engineering teams building complex, high-reliability financial software.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills and effective problem-solving under pressure, particularly around production incidents involving financial transactions.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including with non-technical compliance/risk stakeholders.
- Continuous Improvement: Ability to drive innovation and optimize processes within a regulated environment.
- Industry Knowledge: Up-to-date with emerging technologies and trends in the fintech, digital banking, or payments space.
- Resource Management: Skilled in resource allocation and budget management.
