We are looking for

We are looking for an Engineering Manager with a strong passion for building high-performing engineering teams, a can-do attitude, and a solid hands-on technical background.

You will play a key role in leading people, shaping technical direction, and driving product development, while remaining actively involved in technical work. This role is approximately 60% engineering leadership and people management, and 40% hands-on technical contribution.

You will work closely with Engineering, Product, AI, and other cross-functional teams to turn business and product goals into scalable, reliable, and high-quality technology solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow engineering teams by creating a high-performance environment where engineers can do their best work and continuously develop their technical and professional capabilities.
• Set and communicate technical direction, engineering standards, and best practices while ensuring technology decisions remain aligned with AJARI's product and business goals.
• Work closely with Tech Leads and engineers to plan, prioritize, and execute engineering initiatives, including timelines, technical dependencies, resource allocation, and delivery milestones and also evaluate and improve engineers technical and interpersonal performance, provide meaningful feedback, and support career growth and progression.
• Ensure engineering work is aligned with business priorities by connecting **product requirements, technical execution, and team capacity** through effective planning and coordination.
• Collaborate closely with Product, AI, Business, and other departments to plan engineering resources and deliver cross-functional initiatives effectively.
• Act as a Hiring Manager by driving engineering recruitment, interviewing candidates, onboarding new engineers, and building a strong engineering talent pipeline.
• Establish and continuously improve engineering processes, including Agile development, code quality, CI/CD, technical documentation, testing, and production practices.
• Be actively involved in technical work for approximately 40% of the role**, including **code reviews, technical design reviews, architecture discussions, debugging, production issue resolution, and hands-on development**.
• Contribute directly to the development of scalable applications and services using technologies such as Golang, Python, and React.js.
• Help identify and resolve complex technical challenges, particularly those requiring engineering leadership and deeper technical judgment beyond the day-to-day responsibilities of Tech Leads.
• Monitor engineering performance, delivery quality, system reliability, and technical risks, and proactively drive improvements where needed.

Requirements

• Strong practical problem-solving and analytical skills, with a high level of ownership, initiative, and work ethic.
• Strong interest in both people leadership and hands-on engineering.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate effectively with:

• In both English and Indonesian
• Experienced in managing multiple engineering initiatives simultaneously, including planning, execution, prioritization, and tracking through project and issue management tools.
• Proven experience managing, mentoring, and developing engineers across different levels of seniority.
• At least 2+ years of experience leading and growing engineering teams, preferably within a technology startup or fast-paced product environment.
• At least 7+ years of hands-on software engineering experience building and maintaining scalable applications or systems.
• Strong hands-on experience with at least one of the following, with working knowledge of the others: Golang, Phyton, React.js
• Comfortable reviewing code, discussing technical architecture, troubleshooting production issues, and contributing directly to engineering work.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, system design, API development, databases, testing, and application scalability.
• Deep understanding and practical experience applying Agile methodologies, CI/CD, and continuous delivery.
• Experience working closely with Product Managers, Tech Leads, QA, AI/Data teams, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of engineering performance management, career development, technical mentoring, and team growth.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.

• Understanding or experience working with AI/ML technologies, AI-powered products, or AI-driven software development.
• Familiarity with AI/ML concepts, LLMs, Generative AI, or AI application architecture.
• Experience collaborating with AI/ML engineers, data scientists, or AI-focused product teams.
• Experience building or integrating AI-powered features, APIs, or applications into production systems.
