Smelter Operation Readiness - Sr. Engineer, Process Automation
The purpose of this position:
Design, implement, and maintain automation systems to enhance operational efficiency, safety, process reliability, and dependable operation of the Smelter & Refinery control system. Collaborate with engineers and operators to optimize and integrate advanced technologies such as DCS, PLCs, SCADA systems, and IoT devices into smelting & refining operations.
Key duties and responsibilities:
- Automation System Design and Implementation
- Design and program control systems for equipment like furnaces, mills, and conveyors.
- Develop and configure PLCs (TIA Portal), DCS (Siemens PCS7), IMS, and SCADA systems for process monitoring and control.
- Interface between DCS and MCC (DOL, VSD, SIPROTEC).
- Implement sensors and IoT solutions for real-time data acquisition.
- Process Optimization
- Identify automation opportunities to reduce manual intervention and enhance process stability.
- Implement control loops and algorithms for temperature, pressure, level, flow, and analyzer control.
- Automate maintenance alerts and diagnostics to reduce downtime.
- Equipment Integration
- Ensure seamless integration of new automation systems with existing equipment.
- Collaborate with vendors and maintenance teams for compatibility and functionality.
- Troubleshooting and Maintenance
- Diagnose and resolve automation system issues to minimize production disruptions.
- Data Analysis and Reporting
- Use automation systems for data collection and analysis to improve performance.
- Generate reports on efficiency, equipment performance, and deviations.
- Safety and Compliance
- Implement automated safety systems, including emergency shutdowns and alarms.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and environmental regulations.
- Support
- Work with operators, engineers, technicians, and contractors for work execution.
- Provide technical support for troubleshooting and upgrades.
Key challenges:
- Balancing efficiency, cost, and quality in process optimization.
- Managing raw material variability affecting process stability.
- Communicating complex process adjustments effectively.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 3-5 years of experience in smelting, refining, or heavy industry processes.
- Knowledge of PI System.
- Experience in virtualization and industrial communication protocols.
