An established industry player is seeking a Flotation Coordinator to oversee the commissioning and operational readiness of flotation processes at a mineral processing plant. This role is pivotal in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of flotation circuits, optimizing performance, and developing operational procedures. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in mineral processing, particularly in flotation, and possess strong leadership and communication skills. Join a forward-thinking organization that values innovation and teamwork, and contribute to a legacy of operational excellence in the mining sector.
The Flotation Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, supervising, and executing the commissioning and operation readiness activities related to the Flotation area of the mineral processing plant. This role ensures that all flotation circuits, equipment, and processes are safely commissioned in accordance with project specifications, operational standards, and best practices, ensuring a seamless transition to steady-state operation.
The Flotation Coordinator plays a critical role in developing operating procedures, training operations personnel, optimizing process performance during commissioning, and troubleshooting any technical issues to ensure flotation plant performance meets design parameters.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the commissioning planning and execution activities for all flotation circuits (e.g., rougher, scavenger, cleaner stages) and associated equipment (e.g., flotation cells, pumps, blowers, reagent dosing systems).
Develop detailed commissioning checklists, punch lists, and ensure readiness of mechanical completion for flotation equipment.
Supervise pre-commissioning activities such as system flushing, pressure testing, electrical loop checks, and control system testing.
Coordinate flotation start-up sequences including water runs, reagent commissioning, and flotation cell aeration.
Monitor and optimize flotation circuit performance during commissioning and early operations to achieve metallurgical design targets (e.g., recovery rates, concentrate grades).
Troubleshoot operational issues related to froth stability, reagent mixing and dosing, air flow, and cell level control.
Work closely with Metallurgists, Maintenance, Instrumentation, and Control System teams to ensure full system functionality.
Assist in the development and review of Safe Work Procedures (SWPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Emergency Response Plans (ERPs) specific to flotation operations.
Provide technical support and on-the-job training to operators on flotation operations, equipment care, and troubleshooting techniques.
Ensure compliance with site HSE standards during commissioning and early operations, promoting a strong safety culture.
Participate in risk assessments (e.g., HAZOPs, JHAs) and ensure commissioning activities are aligned with safety and environmental requirements.
Support the development of handover documentation, including commissioning reports, as-built documentation, and lessons learned.
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Processing, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience:
Minimum 10 years of experience in mineral processing operations with at least 5 years specifically in flotation circuits.
Minimum 3 years experience in commissioning of flotation plants in large-scale mining projects (preferably in copper and/or gold processing plants).
Strong technical understanding of flotation chemistry, cell hydrodynamics, reagent selection and dosing, and froth management.
Technical Skills:
Hands-on experience with flotation equipment such as tank cells, column cells, blowers, dosing pumps, and slurry pumps.
Knowledge of plant control systems (e.g., DCS/SCADA) related to flotation operations.
Familiar with commissioning methodologies, system completions, and operation readiness frameworks.
Good troubleshooting skills on mechanical, process, and instrumentation aspects related to flotation.
Competent in interpreting P&IDs, PFDs, process datasheets, and vendor manuals.
Other Skills:
Strong leadership, communication, and coordination skills.
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced commissioning environment.
Fluent in English (spoken and written); proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia is an advantage.
Good understanding of safety systems, risk management, and compliance to site HSE regulations.
High commitment to teamwork and cross-discipline collaboration.
