Job description

The responsibility of a SQL Server Query Tuning Specialist involves analyzing and optimizing poorly performing SQL queries and stored procedures using tools like Query Store, Execution Plans, and DMVs to identify bottlenecks. You will develop indexing strategies to improve efficiency and collaborate with development teams to ensure adherence to best practices. Regular monitoring of database performance is essential, along with reviewing schema designs to recommend enhancements.Additionally, you will automate performance monitoring and reporting using SQL Server tools or third-party applications. You will also assist in implementing database maintenance plans and proactively identify potential issues, all while documenting the tuning processes and recommendations.

Requirement:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science / Information Technology/ Telecommunication/ Electrical Engineering.
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience is necessary.
• Advanced knowledge of T-SQL for developing and optimizing queries, stored procedures, views, and functions.
• Proficient in analyzing and interpreting Execution Plans to resolve bottlenecks.
• Expertise in indexing strategies, query optimization, and statistics management.
• Familiarity with SQL Server tools such as Query Store, SQL Profiler, Activity Monitor, and Extended Events.
• Experience with Dynamic Management Views (DMVs) for diagnosing and monitoring performance.
• Knowledge of SQL Server database architecture, including locking, blocking, and deadlock resolution.
• Ability to implement and manage database maintenance tasks (e.g., index rebuilds, statistics updates).
• Familiarity with high-availability configurations (e.g., Always On Availability Groups) and disaster recovery strategies.
• Experience with on-premise and/or cloud-based SQL Server environments
• Familiarity with third-party performance monitoring tools like Redgate, SolarWinds, SentryOne, etc.
• Knowledge of PowerShell or scripting for automation is a plus
• Understanding of ETL processes using SSIS or similar tools is a plus
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently to meet deadlines.
